Here are three important final reminders:

Print Your Passport!

Grads will be expected to print a Commencement Passport in advance and bring it to Commencement. This Passport will allow you to gain admission to line-up, as only those who have RSVPd for Commencement will be able to print one. It is also the document that will be presented to the onstage reader to announce your name as you receive your diploma cover; therefore it is very important that you print it out and bring it with you on Commencement Day.

When you receive the Passport e-mail via PantherMail, use the link to log in. Your Passport will appear online, and you will be able to print it out. Please bring the printed Passport to Commencement with you, and avoid mangling or smudging it so that the onstage reader will be able to see your name clearly.

Line-up Times and Locations

Chapman does not have rehearsals for Commencement, so all grads must arrive early to receive instructions and line up for the processional march. Please allow enough time to get to campus, park, and walk to the line-up location. Be sure to bring your cap, gown, tassel, Commencement Passport and hood (if applicable). Refer to the listing below for the check-in time and location for your ceremony.

Got Regalia?

Cap and gown are required for all students walking in Commencement. If you failed to order your cap and gown in advance, it is too late to order it online and receive it in time for Commencement. Check with the Argyros Bookstore for your regalia needs; they offer a limited supply of caps, gowns and hoods with an added late fee. Please note that this is a very limited supply, so you should do this as soon as possible.

It’s time to CONNECT. Chapman University’s social media networks will be live and active during Commencement Weekend!

Strategic Marketing and Communications will have a social media booth during the Friday and Saturday commencement ceremonies. From the booth, our social media team will listen, monitor, and respond to our fans, followers, and you! We will answer questions, broadcast important updates, and post live event happenings from each ceremony.

Why connect with Chapman? Our booth will display tweets within a live social feed on a flat screen television. Graduates and guests can stop by our booth to watch this live feed displaying messages from the university (@ChapmanU) and other Twitter users using the official hashtags.

In past years, we’ve heard from students who felt that their Commencement  experience was diminished by the behavior of a few of their classmates — [...]]]> Chapman presents Commencement each year with the goal of creating a memorable, happy event for grads and their guests. For Commencement 2012, we request your assistance with this goal.

In past years, we’ve heard from students who felt that their Commencement  experience was diminished by the behavior of a few of their classmates — grads who were rude or disruptive during the ceremony. These comments are evidence that your behavior on Commencement Day affects the people around you: the guests, the faculty in attendance, all the speakers and performers, and, most importantly, your fellow grads. Please be courteous to your peers. By remaining in your seat until the conclusion of the ceremony and by refraining from making disruptive noise during the ceremony, you can ensure that you’re not interfering with anyone else’s experience of the event. The following are not permitted at any Commencement Ceremony by grads or guests:

• Food, cans, bottles, or beverages other than water (water will be provided for grads)

• Alcohol or controlled substances

• Confetti, toys, fireworks, signs, noise-makers

• Balloons

• Bare feet

• Standing on chairs

• Leaving before the recessional march

Commencement is a ceremony rich in symbolism and tradition, and it serves to mark an important transition as well as to recognize an enormous achievement. The university wants all grads to have the opportunity to savor this event and have fond memories of a meaningful day.

On Commencement Day, those who wish to watch ceremonies online can do so by tuning into the website at the time of the ceremony.
