Last night, the 2014 Cecil Awards took place and it was a night filled with lots of laughs, an impressive show, and hard earned achievements.

Guests started to arrive for the tented pre-party in Dodge College’s parking lot around 5:30 PM. It was here that they got their first taste of the night’s #Limitless theme. Paint cans overflowed with color as various containers of “junk” decorated the area, giving the party a very street-like vibe. Drinks and h

Cecil Roberson (BFA/Creative Producing ’14) and his family were on hand to check out the festivities. His family, who flew in from Maryland for the weekend, were excited to see what he and his friends had accomplished during their time at Dodge.

“I came out tonight to support all my friends who were nominated. They worked hard, and I’m really proud of them,” said Roberson.

“We chose Dodge College because of the individuality of the school that we saw when we first visited. No other school has that. No other school really puts on a show like tonight. It’s really quite impressive,” said Roberson’s mother, Denise.

Drinks continued to flow (even for Professor Paul Seydor, who brought his own martini glass to the party) until it was time to head inside.

The Folino Theater quickly filled up with anxious students, proud parents, and their supportive friends. The theater was decorated like a New York City street, with scaffolding lining the edges of the stage, giving the show an edgy vibe.

The awards went off without a hitch, with humorous videos being shown to introduce our professors, before they came out to introduce the nominees of each category and the winner.

Also on hand was Justin Simien (BFA/Film Production ’04), who received the Ron Thronson Distinguished Alumni Award.

“It’s a huge accomplishment to be honored here tonight, and I can’t thank Dodge College enough for shaping my life’s path,” said Simien during his acceptance speech.
