Alumnus wins Best TV News Anchor at Tennessee Associated Press Broadcast Awards

Sen. John McCain was among the national leaders Ian Reitz ’04 interviewed during his time as a broadcaster at an ABC affiliate in Tucson.


Ian Reitz ’04 has been morning anchor at
WSMV
, an NBC affiliate in Nashville, Tenn., for just 10 months, but he’s already winning some serious attention – literally. Reitz was awarded Best TV News Anchor at the recent Tennessee Associated Press Broadcast Awards.

Reitz, a morning anchor for WSMV, credited his double major in film/television and political science for his career success.

“One taught me the ins and outs of the business and the other taught me everything about politics and world affairs,” he said.

Reitz’s morning show is a three-hour program that begins at 4 a.m. and covers “everything that’s happened since people went to bed,” along with weather and traffic reports as well as features and international news updates. Before joining WSMV, Reitz was at
KGUN9
, an ABC affiliate in Tucson.
