NBC’s ‘Parks and Recreation’ brings Hollywood magic to Chapman

On an 81-degree day in January, Chapman University stood in for a small town in Minnesota. Oh, the magic of Hollywood.

Shooting scenes for their award-winning NBC comedy, the cast and crew of “Parks and Recreation” set up shop in front of Memorial Hall and on Bert C. Williams Mall on Monday, Jan. 21. The story called for the characters played by stars Amy Poehler and Adam Scott to visit Partridge, Minn., where Ben Wyatt (Scott) was a mayor at age 18. Memorial Hall played the part of Partridge City Hall.

The production team shot other scenes elsewhere in Old Towne, including in the Orange Plaza. Several times between takes, Poehler waved to students and other fans of the show who gathered to watch the fun. Actors J.K. Simmons and Annabeth Gish also appeared in scenes. The episode, titled “Partridge,” is scheduled to air Thursday, March 14.
