The Chapman University football team always tries to make its mark on the field, but it recently made an impact off the field helping to feed needy families in Santa Ana.

Several players pitched in to help assemble and deliver grocery bags packed with enough pasta and sauce for several hundred families to prepare a week’s worth of family meals. The off-season service project was in conjunction with the ongoing hunger projects supported by Bruno Serato, owner of the Anaheim White House restaurant.

Serato has been featured on CNN as a Top 10 CNN Hero of 2011 for his work with hungry kids and families.  The players involved were sophomores Kurt Cofer ’15, Johnny Hernandez ‘15, juniors Austin Maranville ’14, Josh Irvin ‘14, and Al White ‘13.

“We just wanted to do whatever we could to help out Bruno in any way possible.  Providing these families with food they don’t have was a real blessing for me and for the guys” said Cofer. “It was a great day and we were very happy to be a part of it.”
