President Jim Doti hit the big five-oh when he finished the recent 2014 Boston Marathon. No, that other milestone. Doti completed his 50th marathon when he crossed the finish line April 21 with son Adam at his side. The pair ran the entire race together, coming in at exactly 5:00.

“I think Adam could have gone a lot faster, but he stayed with his old man,” Doti joked.

Doti said his time was influenced by the heat of the day and his love of pausing for photos with fans along the legendary course.

“So part of it I chalk up to stopping and smelling the roses,” he said.

Pick up a copy of the May 20 Orange County Register to read Doti’s column on his experience in his eighth Boston Marathon and Boston’s comeback spirit in the wake of last year’s bombing.
