Many people have asked us how to memorialize Huell Howser’s life and work. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to one of these two funds:

California’s Gold Scholarship Endowment:

Awarded to students who demonstrate a positive outlook and are actively pursuing ways to improve society as altruistic change agents.

California’s Gold Collection Endowment:

Maintains Huell Howser’s gift of his videos, digital archives, artifacts, memorabilia and book collection.

We so mourn the passing of our beloved Huell. It feels like the loss a personal friend, not a television personality. He could make an ordinary day feel special…and while watching him, we felt transformed in time; able to forget our problems for at least a short while.
May he everlasting peace surround his spirit forever. We will truly, truly, miss Huell, and are thankful that he made possible all his archived shows.

I was so sad to learn of Huell Howser’s passing-one of my favorite shows was California Gold. What a wonderful man to bring the beauty of California to all. He will be missed by all who had joy of his programs brought into our homes.

I last saw Huell when he was on vacation on the Central Coast. I think it was last spring. We heard him before we saw him. He was raving about how good the food was (at Ruddell’s Smokehouse in Cayucos) and how he’d gained 20 pounds already. It was just a chance encounter, everyone within 10 yards of that big, booming voice and wide smile instantly knew who he was. And when he left with his albacore taco to go and wandered down the beach, we all were smiling, too. May your heaven have fish tacos, Huell. RIP.

Rest in God’s peace, Dear Huell. We loved you so much and enjoyed “California’s Gold,” tremendously. You have done so much to educate (and entertain!) people about our wonderful State. This weekend we backpacked into the Anza Borrego desert. Like on many other trips I brought Huell along with me on my phone so we could watch one of his many episodes of California Gold. Like always we both had Tennessee accents for the rest of the night.

Hueell Howser will be missed. He WAS California’s Gold. I think next year’s Rose Parade should have a float dedicated to him . He did so much for California in just a simple and honest way. He should be honored. thank you, Chapman University for keeping his work alive and available for us all.

I’m going to miss Huell. I’ve loved California’s Gold all these years, showing me my home state in all it’s glory. He showed me places that I’d never have known about without his programs. God bless Huell.

What a huge loss. I loved him through his work. He always made me feel that life is good. When I felt sad, I would watch my recorded VCR’s of California’s Gold and other Huell Howser productions. He was the best. I miss him as though he was part of my family. May he RIP.
