Jake Vollebregt (JD ’08)

Fowler School of Law alumnus Jake Vollebregt
(‘08)
was honored with an Emergent Leadership Award this month at the Urban Land Institute (ULI) of Orange County/Inland Empire District Council’s Young Leaders Group annual awards ceremony. The award is designed to recognize motivated, dedicated and innovative professionals in the real estate industry who demonstrate dedication to bettering not only themselves but also the industry.

Vollebregt was honored with the Professional Services Award for his work at Best Best & Krieger LLP, where he serves as deputy city attorney and agency council for cities, water districts and other governmental agencies throughout Southern California. He has been an associate with Best Best & Krieger since 2013. Prior to his work in public law, Vollebregt served as a judicial advocate in the U.S. Marine Corps for five years after graduating from Fowler Law. Vollebregt said the award was unexpected but welcomed and motivating. He said that the best leaders are “engaged and caring enough to find creative solutions that help the organization achieve what it needs.”

His advice to incoming and current Fowler Law students: “Try to develop relationships as much as possible. Find friends in the industry you’re interested in and develop those connections as much as you can. The relationships I developed in law school really helped me find a place after I got out of the Marine Corps.”

While at Fowler Law, Vollebregt participated in the
Moot Court Honors Board
and the Tax Law Society, and served on the
Student Bar Association
Executive Board.

Congratulations on your achievement, Jake!
