ORANGE, Calif. — Chapman University School of Law has partnered with Solo Practice University to provide 10 free one-year subscriptions for graduates from the Classes of 2011, 2010 and 2009.  Graduates from those class years are eligible to apply for a one-year subscription to the online solo practice resource, valued at $695 per year. The ten recipients will be selected through an essay contest for graduates who are serious about pursuing solo practice or who may already be practicing as a solo practitioner. Chapman will also provide two subscriptions for selected third year law students interested in pursuing a solo practice.

“We are invested in the success of our students and graduates and are pulling out all the stops to do all that we can to support their success in this challenging economy.  Our relationship with our students does not end at graduation,” said Suzanna Adelizi, Esq., Director of Career Services, Chapman University School of Law.

Solo Practice University helps to bridge the gap from law school to solo practice for lawyers who have opted to open their own practices right out of law school or shortly thereafter.  The program offers more than 600 online courses taught by over 55 faculty with access to expert advice, tools, information, mentorship, and the professional network lawyers need to succeed in the marketplace. Business experts in law office management, client development, technology, billing, accounting, marketing, social media, and more, serve as instructors and mentors.

“We are aware that more of our graduates are opting to hang their own shingles early in their careers,” said Dean Tom Campbell of Chapman’s School of Law. “Many Chapman Law grads have been very successful as solo practitioners, but we recognize that it is vital that grads making the transition into solo practice have the mentoring and training that they need to make this change in their careers.  Understanding how to manage a solo or small firm practice is essential to success.”

Candidates have until December 14, 2011, to apply to receive a subscription.  The subscriptions will begin January 3, 2012. Qualifying students and alumni may apply for the scholarship by contacting Suzanna Adelizi at adelizi@chapman.edu.

In addition, all Chapman Law alumni and current students may opt to purchase a discounted subscription from Solo Practice University through the Chapman Law portal located at http://solopracticeuniversity.com/chapman/

The Solo Practice University scholarship program is one of many initiatives undertaken by the law school to expand services to students and alumni. In December, the Career Service Office hired its first dedicated alumni counselor, Kate Majewski, to provide greater services, programming and outreach to job-seeking law graduates. This expansion of the CSO staff provides a variety of new services to alumni, including more evening and weekend hours for greater accessibility, special programs in professional development and career planning, and ongoing, practical CLE training.

Consistently ranked among the top universities in the West, Chapman University provides a uniquely personalized and interdisciplinary educational experience to highly qualified students.
