Here are just a few ideas:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Send an announcement with your syllabus<\/li>\n<li>Create a welcome video<\/li>\n<li>Start a Canvas Discussion post and allow everyone to introduce themselves<\/li>\n<li>Use Flipgrid in Canvas for everyone to create their own icebreaker video<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Get to know your students with a survey<\/h3>\n<p>Use an ungraded quiz in Canvas to create a &#8220;get to know you&#8221; survey for your students. Alternatively, embed a Google Form or Microsoft form to collect start-of-semester information from your students.<\/p>\n<h3>Chunk information into Modules to provide organized resources<\/h3>\n<h3>Use Groups to give students a collaboration space<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/t5\/Canvas-Basics-Guide\/What-are-Groups\/ta-p\/16\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">How to use Groups in Canvas<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Use due dates on all assignments<\/h3>\n<p>When you put in a due date, Canvas adds the assignment to the student calendar as well as to the student to-do list. Help your students keep track of their assignments by using the due date feature and let Canvas take care of the reminding.<\/p>\n<h3>Use audio\/video feedback to humanize your grading practice<\/h3>\n<p>Allow students to see your face and hear the tone of your voice when they receive feedback on an assignment by using audio\/video feedback.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/t5\/Instructor-Guide\/How-do-I-leave-feedback-comments-for-student-submissions-in\/ta-p\/764\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">View the instructions<\/a> and scroll down to where it explains how to add a media comment.<\/p>\n<h3>Create feedback loops when grading<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Canvas allows students to reply back to you when giving feedback on assignments.<\/li>\n<li>Canvas has a <a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/t5\/Instructor-Guide\/Can-a-student-resubmit-Canvas-assignments\/ta-p\/647\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">resubmission<\/a> feature if you want to give a student the opportunity to revise and resubmit an assignment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Use &#8220;message students who&#8221; in the grade book<\/h3>\n<p>Did you have a few students forget to submit an assignment? Let Canvas send them a reminder message by using &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/t5\/Instructor-Guide\/How-do-I-send-a-message-to-students-from-the-Gradebook\/ta-p\/741\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">message students who<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h3>Activate the &#8220;notes&#8221; column in the Canvas grade book<\/h3>\n<p>The Notes column is extremely useful! Only you can see it, not the students. However, you have to turn it on. <a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/t5\/Instructor-Guide\/How-do-I-use-the-Notes-column-in-the-Gradebook\/ta-p\/940\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Activate the notes column in Canvas.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Use Course Analytics to see who is participating in your course . . . and who isn&#8217;t<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Learn to use <a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/t5\/Instructor-Guide\/How-do-I-view-Course-Analytics\/ta-p\/968\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Canvas Course Analytics<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Use Student View and the Student Mobile App to see the student experience<\/h3>\n<p>See your course like your students see it!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>How to use <a href=\"https:\/\/community.canvaslms.com\/t5\/Instructor-Guide\/How-do-I-view-a-course-as-a-test-student-using-Student-View\/ta-p\/1122\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Student View<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Many students use their phones to view your course.
