Smith, Ph.D.<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/bart-wilson\">Bart J. Wilson, Ph.D.<\/a>, both Professors of Economics at the Argyros School of Business and Economics, have published a new book with Cambridge University Press entitled, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Humanomics-Sentiments-Twenty-First-Cambridge-Economics\/dp\/1316648818\/\">Humanomics: Moral Sentiments and the Wealth of Nations for the Twenty-First Century<\/a><\/em><em>.<\/em> The main thesis\u2013inspired by a close reading of the founder of modern economics, Adam Smith\u2013transforms the traditional economic model of people as self-centered actors into a deeper study of human beings as moral beings, both in their personal lives with friends and family and in their professional lives of business and economics. Dr. Wilson describes the book as a parallel project to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/research\/institutes-and-centers\/smith-institute-for-political-economy-and-philosophy\/academics-and-research\/humanomics.aspx\">Humanomics minor<\/a> offered at Chapman University.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Adam Smith\u2019s works have been part of both author\u2019s classroom\u00a0curriculum since Fall 2004, before either began teaching at Chapman University. The courses evolved with time and\u00a0with the level of student they were teaching, which include students in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/law\/index.aspx\">Dale E. Fowler School\u00a0of Law<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0undergraduates and high school students in<span>\u00a0<\/span>the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/research\/institutes-and-centers\/economic-science-institute\/conferences-and-workshops\/summer-scholars.aspx\">Summer Scholars<\/a> program.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">As both\u00a0scholars taught the books\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-12837 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/business\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/84\/2019\/01\/BartWilson.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"226\" height=\"215\" \/>of\u00a0Adam\u00a0Smith through their academic careers, they found it necessary they \u201clearn to unlearn\u201d their economics training to gain an understanding of Adam Smith\u2019s work and the continual relevance it holds in today\u2019s world.
