Mario Leone<\/a>, Director of the Leatherby Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics, has been a long-time board member at recently acquired DocVerify<\/a>, an Orange County based company in the remote notarization business. Founded 14 years ago, DocVerify<\/a> experienced the highs and lows that come with any entrepreneurial venture. When Covid-19 forced nearly all businesses to adopt some aspect of remote work, DocVerify seized their moment. The company capitalized on their remote expertise and focus, their revenue exploded, and they were courted for acquisition, ultimately aligning with Black Knight<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had the privilege of negotiating the deal from start to finish,\u201d said Leone. \u201cWhat an experience! A different type of summer experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

DocVerify\u2019s founder and CEO Darcy Mayer is a frequent guest speaker in the Argyros School, making regular visits in the Management Information Systems (MGSC 300) classroom. With this most recent success, Leone has plans to invite Mayer to guest lecture in other classes more focused on entrepreneurship and new product development. Both subject matters are offered at the undergraduate and graduate levels.<\/p>\n

The Leatherby Center is home to over 40 Chapman University student and alumni startups. Director Leone is heavily involved in many small businesses as board member, advisor, and consultant, and this latest victory will energize Center participants even more to chase their dream and keep moving forward.
