\"\"Nathaniel Hoskin, a 2020 Chapman University graduate, holds a degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in Finance and a minor in Data Analytics. Since his time at Chapman, Nathaniel has paved a path of success and innovation in the world of financial planning and marketing, founding two companies: Hoskin Capital and N2 Content Marketing. His story is one of resilience, strategy, and an entrepreneurial drive influenced greatly by his Chapman experience.<\/p>\n

Chapman Experience: A Foundation of Growth<\/h3>\n

Reflecting on his Chapman journey, Nathaniel credits both the academic and social environment for shaping his career. \u201cPeople and possibilities,\u201d he says, summing up his experience. “Meeting Reggie Gilyard, spending hours in Janes Financial Center, and working alongside Fadel Lawandy and Tim Frenzel taught me how to grow strategically.” Chapman’s community of leaders and innovative thinkers helped Nathaniel shift from a fixed mindset to an adaptable, forward-looking approach that serves him in his career to this day. \"\"<\/p>\n

Through practical projects like the JFC Residency Program, Nathaniel gained hands-on investment experience, learning key financial management principles that have continued to inform his professional endeavors. Even though he managed a full-time job during his studies, Nathaniel found time to embrace Chapman\u2019s traditions, recalling, \u201cYou know I showed up for Undie Run!\u201d<\/p>\n

The Road to Entrepreneurship<\/h3>\n

Today, Nathaniel owns and operates Hoskin Capital, a financial planning firm focused on HENRYs (High Earners, Not Rich Yet). His inspiration came from noticing the industry\u2019s focus on retirees, which felt outdated to him. “Chapman showed me the old guard methods and the new, innovative ways people were approaching finance,” he shares. This blend of tradition and innovation motivated Nathaniel to create a firm that supports young clients in wealth-building.<\/p>\n

\"\"Nathaniel\u2019s second venture, N2 Content Marketing, helps young financial advisors harness the power of social media. After his own struggle to gain visibility for Hoskin Capital, he discovered the potential of TikTok, where his videos attracted over 230,000 followers. \u201cNow, I teach other young, disruptive advisors how to use the tools the old guard won\u2019t touch,\u201d he explains. His success on TikTok highlights his knack for using unconventional methods to make finance accessible to a broader audience.<\/p>\n

Learning from Chapman\u2019s Influential Faculty<\/h3>\n

Nathaniel attributes much of his growth to his mentors at Chapman, especially Fadel Lawandy. Reflecting on Lawandy’s influence, he remarks, \u201cHe could captivate a class of rowdy twenty-somethings and then steal the show at the Economic Forum that evening.\u201d Lawandy\u2019s teachings went beyond finance, imparting lessons in bearing, kindness, and the importance of using wealth to impact others positively. Hoskin considers these qualities vital as he continues to develop his companies and guide his clients. \"\"<\/p>\n

Through rigorous courses in portfolio management, applied data analytics, and even managerial accounting, Nathaniel found his passion for finance solidified. \u201cIt\u2019s probably obvious from my career choice,\u201d he jokes, \u201cbut I believe money is a universal force. We all have to interact with it whether we like it or not.\u201d<\/p>\n

Resilience and Resourcefulness<\/h3>\n

Starting his college journey with just $26 in his bank account, Nathaniel balanced full-time work with his academic responsibilities. His days were structured for efficiency, running flash cards during work breaks and taking evening classes. This intense schedule taught him invaluable skills in prioritization and handling pressure. \u201cIf you need something done, give it to a busy person,\u201d he quips, recalling the experience fondly. \u201cEverything needed to be efficient, or it would simply never happen.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nathaniel’s first professional opportunity came with Pacific Investment Research, where he began working as a sophomore. This experience was pivotal, teaching him essential sales techniques, licensing requirements, and giving him a real-world introduction to the wealth management industry. His time at Chapman, marked by practical internships and data-driven courses, instilled a “skeptically analytical” mindset that has shaped his approach to every challenge.<\/p>\n

Followership, Leadership, and Finding Fulfillment<\/h3>\n

\"\"For students hoping to follow a similar path, Nathaniel advises humility and openness. \u201cYou won\u2019t be the smartest person in the room, and if you are, find a different room,\u201d he shares. Listening, learning, and accepting others\u2019 leadership are as crucial as leading yourself. Nathaniel also emphasizes the importance of finding a career that is \u201cimpactful, valuable, and fulfilling\u201d\u2014qualities he has prioritized in building his own businesses.<\/p>\n

Looking back, he would have liked to focus more on building practical relationships and observing the people around him. \u201cLearn how to hold a conversation, spend more time watching the people around you, and spend less time buried in your own stressors,\u201d he advises. For Nathaniel, the journey at Chapman and beyond has been about balancing tangible knowledge with interpersonal skills, leading to a career that combines success with a drive to make finance accessible and impactful for others.<\/p>\n
