Paws up\u00a0<\/span>moment<\/span>!<\/span>\u00a0After months of engaging with employers and working\u00a0<\/span>towards\u00a0<\/span>creating an active and accessible virtual\u00a0<\/span>event\u00a0<\/span>environment<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>Chapman’s<\/span>\u00a0largest recruiting event of the year, the\u00a0<\/span>Spring Career Fair<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>came to life on March 3.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With over 1,000 unique employer-candidate\u00a0<\/span>interactions,\u00a0<\/span>the fair<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>was\u00a0<\/span>a tremendous success<\/span>\u00a0in its mission to connect student<\/span>\u00a0and alumni job seekers<\/span>\u00a0with professionals<\/span>, internships, and<\/span>\u00a0full-time opportunities.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

S<\/span>tudents prepared for the event through prep sessions organized before the\u00a0<\/span>big<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>day<\/span>\u00a0with Chapman\u2019s career experts. Additionally,\u00a0<\/span>personalized recommendations<\/span>\u00a0were made<\/span>\u00a0based on\u00a0<\/span>students’<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>interests<\/span>,\u00a0<\/span>encouraging them t<\/span>o sign up for one-on-one sessions with\u00a0<\/span>unique\u00a0<\/span>employers<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>with<\/span>\u00a0job and internship opportunities within their<\/span>\u00a0target<\/span>\u00a0industry. From the sciences, to education, nonprofit to marketing<\/span>, healthcare to<\/span> finance<\/span>\u00a0and beyond<\/span>, there was a little something for everyone.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

About 150 professional alumni and recruiting representatives joined the event, ready to hire Chapman talent.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Career Fair\u2019s\u00a0<\/span>streamlined session reservation system<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>meant no more lines or waits \u2013 a new reality for career fairs. The<\/span>\u00a0combination of private<\/span>\u00a0one-on-one<\/span>\u00a0recruiting discussions and group information sessions presented a flexible<\/span>\u00a0environment to\u00a0<\/span>forge<\/span>\u00a0professional relationships, practice and enhance networking\u00a0<\/span>skills and<\/span>\u00a0maximize\u00a0<\/span>job seekers\u2019\u00a0<\/span>time and effort<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>After attending the fair, some students\u00a0<\/span>have shared\u00a0their experiences and how they were able to make the best out of the event.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

This experience has\u00a0definitely prepared\u00a0me for the virtual work environment that awaits\u00a0<\/span>me<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>I\u00a0<\/span>have attended 3 out of the 4 career fairs held during my academic career, I can\u00a0definitely say\u00a0that my participation was and is very important. I have gotten way more comfortable over the years speaking to others in\u00a0<\/span>leadership<\/span> positions, collecting my thoughts, and communicating effectively. Because I\u2019m going into marketing, it is no secret that good communication is part of being a good marketer. I need to practice formulating thoughtful and effective messages through the words I speak and the words I write. Getting experience talking to others in this virtual format is a fantastic way to <\/span>develop the skill and practice \u2013\u00a0<\/span>Ivy Magruder \u201822<\/p>\n

I decided to attend\u00a0<\/span>the<\/span> career fair to learn about the opportunities companies were offering! I prepared for the group sessions by going through companies\u2019 websites and social media pages like their LinkedIn. For <\/span>one-on-one<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>sessions<\/span>, I looked up the individuals who were offering sessions on LinkedIn before selecting who I wanted to talk to. I also\u00a0<\/span>checked<\/span>\u00a0out their company profiles.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>This experience has taught me to always\u00a0<\/span>come<\/span>\u00a0prepared with more questions than you think\u00a0<\/span>you\u2019ll<\/span> need. <\/span>This career fair also prepared me for navigating future conversations I will have at other events. As a Senior,\u00a0<\/span>I’m<\/span>\u00a0always on the hunt for job opportunities and searching for ways to network with companies that I am interested in joining.\u00a0<\/span>I found the virtual career fair platform\u00a0<\/span>really accessible<\/span>, organized, and\u00a0<\/span>personable<\/span>. It made the intimidation of networking with big companies feel more like a conversation between people with mutual interests<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0I\u00a0<\/span>wasn’t<\/span>\u00a0really expecting to feel inspired by my interviews at the career fair, but I feel like I made a meaningful connection with an employer and was able to learn more about a whole new career path that I\u00a0<\/span>didn’t<\/span> know I could enter with just a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. I made an appointment with them, tailored my resume, and looked at their website for more information. I learned a lot about potential opportunities in meaningful 1-on-1 conversations. I wasn\u2019t sure what to expect going into a virtual career fair but thanks to Chapman\u2019s Career Team and Handshake for making it so easy and user-friendly. I loved how your 1-1 sessions were quickly displayed on the page, and really appreciated that there was a Chapman Help Desk just in case anything went wrong. Loved the support and the easiness of the entire process, made the entire day that much smoother!
