{"id":1240,"date":"2022-07-13T15:56:24","date_gmt":"2022-07-13T22:56:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogschapman.wpenginepowered.com\/center-for-global-education\/2022\/07\/13\/center-for-global-education-receives-grant-to-award-25-free-passports\/"},"modified":"2026-07-20T06:26:14","modified_gmt":"2026-07-20T06:26:14","slug":"center-for-global-education-receives-grant-to-award-25-free-passports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/center-for-global-education\/2022\/07\/13\/center-for-global-education-receives-grant-to-award-25-free-passports\/","title":{"rendered":"Center for Global Education Receives Grant to Award 25 Free Passports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Chapman University has been selected by the Institute of International Education (IIE) as one of 40 institutions to receive an <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iie.org\/iiepassportproject\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">IIE American Passport Project<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> grant that will enable up to <\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">25 first-year or first-transfer year Chapman students<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> to obtain a U.S. passport at no cost to the student and support their study abroad journeys.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The IIE American Passport Project provides one critical piece of the multi-faceted effort needed to reach students who are traditionally underrepresented in study abroad: a passport. <strong>Any incoming first-year students or new transfer students who receive a Pell Grant and want to be considered for one of the 25 passport recipients can complete the <\/strong><\/span><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/forms.office.com\/Pages\/ResponsePage.aspx?id=rymZgCUtv0WYNwieuc-9AVBf0S_9F5pPkF_M1qkxgBNURFpVSklPT0ZBV1FSN0UySkZKM0JCM1VJSy4u\">Chapman Passport Grant Nomination form<\/a> to determine eligibility. &nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">All recipients will be selected by October 2022.&nbsp; After selection, the Center for Global Education will help students obtain their passport, pay the passport fees, and guide them in their path to study abroad. The IIE American Passport Project grant is intended to promote diversity, inclusion, access, and equity in study abroad and to support the <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.iie.org\/iienetwork\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">IIENetwork<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> in their efforts to encourage students to go abroad who would otherwise not participate in an international experience as part of their college education. For students of limited means, studying abroad can require long-term planning and involve financial hurdles, like the cost of a passport, which could bar them from moving forward. The IIE grant will help 1,000 Pell-eligible students in the U.S. to obtain their U.S. passports and start their study abroad journey.<\/span><span
