{"id":394,"date":"2019-12-04T10:32:00","date_gmt":"2019-12-04T18:32:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogschapman.wpenginepowered.com\/center-for-global-education\/2019\/12\/04\/international-education-week-2019-recap\/"},"modified":"2026-07-24T18:18:56","modified_gmt":"2026-07-24T18:18:56","slug":"international-education-week-2019-recap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/center-for-global-education\/2019\/12\/04\/international-education-week-2019-recap\/","title":{"rendered":"International Education Week 2019 Recap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left\">International Education Week was an exhilarating week of performances, panels, and presentations amongst other events.&nbsp; From French cheese tasting to an Arabic film screening, the CGE offered multiple events per day catering to a variety of audiences.&nbsp; Surely, anyone present during the magic show at the international student mixer would confirm the spectacular nature and entertainment of events during the week.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-396 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/center-for-global-education\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/79\/2019\/12\/IMG_20191118_173846_1-e1575417742236.jpg\" alt=\"Say Cheese! Tasting Event. Students around table looking at cheese\" width=\"389\" height=\"519\">We kicked off the week with the long-anticipated Global Fest, featuring our famous flag procession as well as performances from Sound Check (Chapman\u2019s acapella club) and Haikaro (a taiko drum group) whom, if you didn\u2019t hear, you probably felt if you were walking around the Piazza at 12:45 p.m.<\/p>\n<p>A huge shout-out to all performers, our master of ceremonies Maria Khalil, Residence Life &amp; First-Year Experience, Student Government Association and Office of Admission for co-sponsoring.&nbsp; Monday also featured the Fellowships and Scholarships Open House by the Center for Undergraduate Excellence and the mouth-watering \u201cSay Cheese!\u201d tasting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>[ngg src=&#8221;galleries&#8221; ids=&#8221;2&#8243; display=&#8221;basic_slideshow&#8221;]&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-410 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/center-for-global-education\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/79\/2019\/12\/ATG1.png\" alt=\"Student signing into Around the Globe event\" width=\"424\" height=\"391\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/center-for-global-education\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/79\/2019\/12\/ATG1.png 897w, https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/center-for-global-education\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/79\/2019\/12\/ATG1-300x277.png 300w, https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/center-for-global-education\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/79\/2019\/12\/ATG1-768x708.png 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 424px) 100vw, 424px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Tuesday was no less eventful as the CGE collaborated with Promising Futures to put on an information session catering to first-generation students.&nbsp; With the info session tacked on the Promising Future\u2019s study session, students indulged in info, knowledge, and pizza!&nbsp; The CGE also hosted \u201cAround the Globe,\u201d where alumni from study abroad programs all over the world answered prospective students\u2019 questions.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The ball kept rolling on Wednesday as we hosted two events: Work, Study &amp; Teach Abroad After Graduation and Viajes \u2013 a Latinx study abroad panel.&nbsp; Work, Study &amp; Teach Abroad informed students of opportunities abroad post-graduation and we brought in representatives from Peace Corps, JET, TAPIF, and MEXT.&nbsp; Students left with a plethora of options to consider post-graduation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-398 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/center-for-global-education\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/79\/2019\/12\/IMG_20191120_121055.jpg\" alt=\"Panelists eating and students listening at Viajes 19 - a LatinX study abroad panel\" width=\"421\" height=\"316\">Viajes 2019 featured Latinx alumni who had recently studied abroad (one as early as 2 weeks prior). With perspectives from recent alumni, students left with an inside scoop on what the process and experience could be like for them.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>IEW culminated with two entertaining social events.&nbsp; The Arabic Language Club presented \u201cA Man in Our House\u201d with legendary international actor Omar Sharif.&nbsp; Up on the starlit patio of Argyros Forum, International Student Services and the Chapman Diversity Project co-sponsored the International Student Mixer where students networked, snacked and stargazed to finish off the week.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-399 aligncenter\"
