Below you will find a listing of upcoming sessions with details and registration links. Some of these will be repeated during the spring term. We hope to see you at some of these sessions this year!<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>October Sessions<\/h3>\n<p><strong>What They Never Taught You About Teaching in Graduate School<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Date &amp; Time: Wednesday, October 11, 12:00-1:00pm<\/p>\n<p>Format &amp; Location: In-person, Orange campus (AF 209A) with simulcast at Rinker campus (CC 201)<\/p>\n<p>Session Description:<\/p>\n<p>If you\u00a0completed graduate school but were not taught principles of effective teaching and\/or how learning works, you are not alone. Although colleges and the students who attend have changed over the years, the way we prepare academics has changed very little. This session is designed to provide participants with\u00a0evidence-based\u00a0teaching\u00a0practices that, when implemented consistently, can<em>\u00a0improve<\/em>\u00a0classroom instruction and assessment, student learning, and evaluations of your course. Hear from colleagues who successfully achieved promotion with tenure and a successful critical year review. Participants will work on a personalized strategic plan &#8211; identifying goals, establishing priorities, and mapping out a plan to ensure a productive term\/year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Office of Faculty Advancement Session: What is Excellence?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Facilitators: Norma Bouchard, Provost and Joe Slowensky, Vice President for Institutional Effectiveness and Faculty Advancement<\/p>\n<p>This is an interview style format. Joe Slowensky interviews the Provost on what excellence in the promotion process means. The workshop will provide strategies for how to design (or re-design) learning activities and assessments with these tools in mind, whether to incorporate or mitigate their use.
