In light of this increase in underprepared students, how can faculty and institutions respond to better support an ever-changing student population?<\/p>\n<p>Join us for an in-depth exploration and exchange of ideas focused on addressing the gap between faculty expectations and student readiness for college. It is an assertion of faith in a better future in an increasingly uncertain and fraught present. It is a commitment to that future even if we can\u2019t clearly discern its shape. It is a continuing pedagogical practice rather than a set of characteristics. Simply put, we teach because we believe it matters<\/em>\u201d (Gannon, 2020).<\/p>\n<p>Kevin Gannon is Director of the Center for the Advancement of Faculty Excellence and Professor of History at Queens University of Charlotte, in North Carolina. He is the author of <em>Radical Hope: A Teaching Manifesto<\/em> (2020), and his writing has also appeared in The\u00a0<em>Chronicle of Higher Education<\/em>, <em>Vox<\/em>, <em>CNN<\/em>, and <em>The Washington Post<\/em>.
