{"id":1143,"date":"2015-04-02T15:14:39","date_gmt":"2015-04-02T22:14:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogschapman.wpenginepowered.com\/collections\/2015\/04\/02\/new-exhibit-changing-california\/"},"modified":"2026-07-20T06:13:16","modified_gmt":"2026-07-20T06:13:16","slug":"new-exhibit-changing-california","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/collections\/2015\/04\/02\/new-exhibit-changing-california\/","title":{"rendered":"&quot;Changing California&quot;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Crowds gathered on Tuesday night in Leatherby Libraries to celebrate the opening of a temporary exhibit titled,&nbsp;\u201cChanging California: Selected watercolors from the Mark and Janet Hilbert Collection of California Art at Chapman University.\u201d The exhibit features eleven pieces from the Hilbert Collection, each representing life across California, especially the social, cultural, and historical changes occurring during the 1930s through the 1970s.<\/p>\n<p>Charlene Baldwin, Dean of Leatherby Libraries, President Doti, and Mark Hilbert discussed how the Hilbert Collection came to fruition, and Mary Platt, Director of Communications and Media Relations&nbsp;gave a brief explanation of the history of&nbsp;the California Scene Painting genre in relation to the eleven pieces on display.<\/p>\n<p>This exhibition is on view on the second floor of Leatherby Libraries in the Doy and Dee Henley Reading Room through August 10th and is available for viewing during regular&nbsp;<a title=\"Library Hours\" href=\"http:\/\/www1.chapman.edu\/library\/info\/hours.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">library hours<\/a>.
