This past Sunday, friends and visitors gathered to celebrate the closing reception of the Paths and Edges <\/em>exhibition at the Guggenheim Gallery, which marks the fifth anniversary of the Escalette Permanent Collection of Art.<\/p>\n

Sheryl Bourgeois, Ph. D., Executive Vice President of University Advancement, talks to visitors about the origins of the collection and it’s academic value on campus.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Several of the exhibit’s featured artists were in attendance, including Soo Kim, whose artwork That was because this year will of course go on <\/em>is the newest addition to our collection. Soo spoke about her artistic practice, and how the creation of this specific piece came to be a personal cathartic process for her.  The piece, formed from hand-cut paper, is dedicated to the memory of Phyllis and Ross Escalette. Their daughter, Suzanne Ellingson, who continues to play an active role in the collection, was also in attendance and spoke about her parents’ lasting legacy through the world of art and for the educational and artistic gain of Chapman University.<\/p>\n

The reception also marked the launch of the Paths and Edges <\/em>exhibition catalogue.  The catalogue features written analysis, reflections, and memories from members of our Chapman Family: student, alumni, faculty, staff, friends, family, and community members who have all valued the collection on campus over the past five years.  For more information about the catalogue, or to obtain a copy for yourself, please contact collections@chapman.edu <\/a>or herse@chapman.edu.<\/a><\/p>\n
