{"id":2040,"date":"2016-04-01T11:00:51","date_gmt":"2016-04-01T18:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogschapman.wpenginepowered.com\/collections\/2016\/04\/01\/slow-art-day-instagram-contest\/"},"modified":"2016-04-01T11:00:51","modified_gmt":"2016-04-01T18:00:51","slug":"slow-art-day-instagram-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/collections\/2016\/04\/01\/slow-art-day-instagram-contest\/","title":{"rendered":"Slow Art Day Instagram Contest!"},"content":{"rendered":"<blockquote><p><em>It\u2019s not what you look at that matters, it\u2019s what you see.<\/em><br \/>\n&#8211; Henry David Thoreau<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Museum visitors spend an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2014\/10\/12\/travel\/the-art-of-slowing-down-in-a-museum.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\">average of 15 to 30 seconds<\/a> looking at a work of art. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slowartday.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Slow Art Day<\/a> is a global\u00a0event dedicated to lengthening this amount of time. Spending more time with a work of art results in new discoveries, new observations, and ideally, a new understanding of\u00a0art.<\/p>\n<p>We are\u00a0proud to be participating in Slow Art Day this year, and we encourage everyone to spend five\u00a0minutes\u00a0or more with one\u00a0artwork\u00a0on campus. Though the official date of Slow Art Day is April 9th, we will be celebrating\u00a0all next week.<\/p>\n<p>Chapman Art Collections is hosting an Instagram contest in which students can enter for a chance to win a Collections t-shirt:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Simply snap a selfie with an artwork, and caption it with how long you looked at it\u00a0and any\u00a0observations or revelations<\/li>\n<li>Pieces can be from Chapman&#8217;s on-campus sculptures, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/arts\/escalette.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Escalette Collection of Art<\/a> (Beckman Hall, Moulton Hall, or Argyros Forum) or the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hilbertmuseum.com\/#california-art\" target=\"_blank\">Hilbert Museum of California Art<\/a><\/li>\n<li>Lastly, tag your photo with <strong>#CUSlowArtDay<\/strong> and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/chapmancollections\/\" target=\"_blank\">@ChapmanCollections<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Contest ends on April 9th, 2016 at 11:59 P.M.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Featured Image: Albert Contreras,\u00a0<em>Untitled 12 Panels<\/em>, 2010.
