The Escalette Permanent Art Collection and the Guggenheim Gallery are thrilled to present <\/span>KIN: Portraits from the Escalette Permanent Art Collection<\/span><\/em>, a group exhibition highlighting recent acquisitions from the Escalette Collection that explore portraiture as a site of relationship, belonging, and interdependence. The exhibition will be open from February 2 – March 19, 2026. There will be an opening reception on Wednesday, February 11th from 4:00-6:00pm.<\/span><\/p>\n

While often understood as a straightforward likeness, portraiture can both reveal and withhold, isolating individuals while pointing to broader networks of connection among artists, subjects, communities, and viewers.<\/span><\/p>\n

The exhibition\u2019s focal point is Shizu Saldamando\u2019s portrait of Los Angeles\u2013based artist Carolina Caycedo. Positioned in dialogue with surrounding works, the portrait reflects shared commitments between the two artists to connection across physical, emotional, social, and political spaces. Organized in three sections, the exhibition moves between interdependence with the non-human world, immigrant experiences of space and belonging, and artists\u2019 self-representation. Together, the works reframe portraiture as a relational practice rather than a fixed image.<\/span><\/p>\n

This exhibition was collaboratively curated by the Escalette Collection, the Guggenheim Gallery, and the Escalette Student Art Ambassadors Forest Delaney, Jo Martinez, Erin Ohline, Ysabella Rodriguez, Emily Rubio, and Chase Takamori. <\/span>Featured artists include Hakeem Adewumi, Laura Aguilar, Katie Dorame, Zackary Drucker and Rhys Ernst, Ivan Forde, Phung Huynh, Jorge Isordia, Bovey Lee, Poli Marichal, Ranu Mukherjee, Lorena Ochoa, Maia Cruz Palileo, Cara Romero, Samantha Roth, Shizu Saldamando, Paul Mpagi Sepuya, and Jenny Yurshansky.<\/p>\n

Support for this exhibition is generously provided by the Phyllis and Ross Escalette Permanent Art Collection Endowment; the Guggenheim Gallery; Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences.<\/p>\n
