\n‘Twas the night before Christmas, when all across campus,<\/p>\n

Not a work of art was stirring, not even a canvas.<\/p>\n

The paintings were hung in Beckman with care,<\/p>\n

In hopes that more visitors soon would be there.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Adkins was settled, hung safe on his wall,<\/p>\n

With Rauschenberg\u2019s Cardbird <\/em>just across the hall.<\/p>\n

Two Wayne Whites in Beckman, and one in Moulton too,<\/p>\n

And even a Soft Toilet<\/em>, no wait, make that two.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

When out in the Piazza there arose such a clatter,<\/p>\n

The Ambassadors scrambled to see what was the matter.<\/p>\n

Away to the window they flew in a flash,<\/p>\n

And got there in time for another loud crash.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The lights of the fountain were turned down real low,<\/p>\n

Giving the Piazza a Holiday glow.<\/p>\n

When, what to their wondering eyes should appear,<\/p>\n

But a miniature sleigh and eight tiny reindeer.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

With a little old driver, so lively and jolly,<\/p>\n

I knew in a moment it must be Salvador Dali.<\/p>\n

More rapid than eagles, his coursers they came,<\/p>\n

And he whistled and shouted and called them by name:<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“Now DeLap! Now D\u00fcrer!<\/p>\n

Now, Tunberg and Turner!<\/p>\n

On, Bradford! On, Bauman!<\/p>\n

On, Wayne White and Walker!<\/p>\n

To the top of the porch!<\/p>\n

To the top of the wall!<\/p>\n

Now dash away! Dash away!<\/p>\n

Dash away all!”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,<\/p>\n

when they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky<\/p>\n

so up to Beckman the coursers they flew,<\/p>\n

with the sleigh full of artwork, and Dali too.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof<\/p>\n

the prancing and pawing of each little hoof.<\/p>\n

As I drew in my head and was turning around,<\/p>\n

down the chimney Dali came with a bound.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He wore a black suit, from his head to his foot,<\/p>\n

and his shoes were all tarnished with ashes and soot.<\/p>\n

A bundle of paintings he had flung on his back,<\/p>\n

and he looked like a peddler just opening his pack.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

His eyes–how they twinkled! His eyebrows, how daring!<\/p>\n

His cheeks were severe, his look was quite scary!<\/p>\n

His thin little mouth was sly like a mink,<\/p>\n

and the moustache he had was as black as pen ink.<\/p>\n

The stump of a cigarette he held tight in his teeth,<\/p>\n

and the smoke it encircled his head like a wreath.<\/p>\n

He had a narrow face and slicked back hair,<\/p>\n

that was stuck in place, like a helmet I swear.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He was thin and lanky, a typical surrealist,<\/p>\n

and I laughed when I saw him, now here was an artist.<\/p>\n

A wink of his eye and a twist of his head<\/p>\n

soon gave me assurance I had nothing to dread.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work,<\/p>\n

and filled all the stockings, then turned with a jerk.<\/p>\n

And laying his finger aside of his nose,<\/p>\n

and giving a nod, up the chimney he rose.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a whistle,<\/p>\n

And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.<\/p>\n

But I heard him exclaim, ‘ere he drove out of sight,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“Bon Nadal to all, and to all a good night!”<\/p>\n
