Chapman University is excited to invite students, staff, faculty, and members of the Orange community to join as we celebrate the completion of the newest mural on campus,\u00a0 \u201cVisions of Chapman: Education, Diversity and Community\u201d<\/em> by Emigdio \u201cHiggy\u201d Vasquez, Jr. on Wednesday, September 12. The mural itself was funded by the generosity and support of the Ellingson Family.<\/p>\n

The unveiling will start at 5pm at Moulton Hall<\/a> with live music and refreshments on the Lindquist Arts Esplanade<\/a>. The event will also include viewings of documentary films about this mural in addition to a video about Emigdio Vasquez\u2019 historic Cypress Street mural<\/a> of 1979.<\/p>\n

Emigdio \u201cHiggy\u201d Vasquez, Jr. follows the footsteps of his father, known as the \u201cgodfather of Chicano art,\u201d and was commissioned by the city of Anaheim to restore his father\u2019s murals that were originally painted over 20 years ago to honor the city\u2019s citrus packing history. Chapman University is excited to unveil the new mural by Vasquez to commemorate the communities of Orange and Chapman.<\/p>\n

Research assistance and guidance was kindly provided by the Orange Barrio Historical Society and the Orange Public Library.<\/p>\n
