The work of the Thompson Policy Institute<\/a> (TPI) is to propose real-world solutions to these barriers and disseminate ideas, practices, and policies to those who have influence over the lives of people with disabilities.\u00a0 These \u201cinfluencers\u201d include individuals with disabilities, their families, policymakers, caregivers, professionals, and even the general public who control the perception of disability and ability.\u00a0 Each year, TPI, alongside Chapman’s Attallah College of Educational Studies<\/a>, hosts a summit to inform the public about the critical issues facing people with disabilities, as well as their families, support communities, and the agencies that work on their behalf.\u00a0 This year’s TPI DisAbility Summit will focus on research and practice in the areas of transition to work and inclusive schooling.<\/p>\n

TPI is excited to announce that 2020’s keynote speaker is Joe Xavier, the Director of California’s Department of Rehabilitation.\u00a0 Joe has over 34 years of experience in business and public administration, as well as many years participating in advocacy and community organizations.\u00a0 As an immigrant, a blind consumer, a beneficiary of the DOR\u2019s services, Joe has the experience and understands the challenges and opportunities available to individuals with disabilities, and the services required to maximize an individual\u2019s full potential.<\/p>\n

As this is an event that directly affects the community by addressing disability through all life stages, TPI would like top invite the community to attend this eye-opening event.\u00a0 A complementary continental\u00a0 breakfast will begin at 8:00AM in the Aitken Arts Plaza in front of Musco Center and the main program will begin at 9:00AM in Musco Auditorium.\u00a0 This event is free to attend, but registration<\/a> is required.\u00a0 We hope to see you there!<\/p>\n
