On August 4, Chapman President Struppa announced that the university will begin fall classes with remote instruction. This is not the news we wanted, nor the plan we have been working toward for the past several months. But with the current state of the pandemic across the country, we will always put the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff and community first.<\/span><\/p>\n

Even though the Orange campus is not yet open for normal business, we know that neighbors are concerned about Chapman students living off campus. Please be aware that we are actively encouraging students to stay home, if at all possible, and not live out in the community. However, for those students who do choose to live near campus, clear expectations are being communicated to them regarding health and safety behaviors, as well as the importance of being a good neighbor.<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the next few weeks, we\u2019ll be making an extra effort to connect with students living in our surrounding neighborhoods. Our Off-Campus Outreach team will pay in-person visits to as many as 1,500 students living in Orange in order to reinforce the need to continue practicing healthy behavior even while they are away from school. They will also educate the students on how to be good neighbors, covering topics like noise, parking and property maintenance.<\/span><\/p>\n

We will also deliver care packages for off-campus student residents, containing masks, hand sanitizer and other safety items.<\/span><\/p>\n

As always, the Office of Community Relations<\/a> is here to answer questions and help resolve any issues that may arise. In addition to funding enhanced patrols that will respond to large gathering and party calls, Chapman is working with the Orange Police Department and our own Office of Public Safety and Dean of Students Office to determine additional ways to enforce health and safety measures among our students when they are off campus.<\/span><\/p>\n
