Thanks to a strong partnership with\u00a0the City, disturbance calls to the Orange Police\u00a0Department (OPD) involving Chapman students\u00a0have significantly reduced over the past two years.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Total Disturbance Calls (Academic Year)<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>2021-22 \u2013 243<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>2022-23 \u2013 182 (reduction of 25%)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>2023-24 \u2013 113 (reduction of 40%)<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Total Two Year Reduction: 53%<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cWe have done a lot of work at the start of the year\u00a0to educate our students on what it means to be a\u00a0good neighbor in Orange,\u201d said James Gerrard,\u00a0the university\u2019s community relations manager.\u00a0Strategies include meeting with athletics teams,\u00a0Greek Life and student government at the start of\u00a0the academic year. The university also visited more\u00a0than 150 houses in the neighborhood to deliver\u00a0Good Neighbor bags and to conduct preventive\u00a0liaison visits with OPD.<\/p>\n<p>These face-to-face\u00a0measures supplement a Good Neighbor mailer that\u00a0is sent to students moving into the community.\u00a0In addition, the Community Relations team\u00a0canvassed the neighborhood at the end of the\u00a0year and distributed an educational mailer about\u00a0moving out. This has significantly reduced the\u00a0issues with students leaving trash behind when\u00a0they leave.\u00a0\u201cWe&#8217;re grateful to have such a great partnership\u00a0with OPD, I think the results are really speaking\u00a0for themselves,\u201d said Gerrard.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chapman University&#8217;s Office of Community\u00a0Relations has been hard at work ensuring that\u00a0campus-area neighborhoods stay quiet and\u00a0pleasant.
