It looks like Chapman University planners and construction managers missed the memo about those lazy days of summer. From the ongoing construction of the Center for Science and Technology to a major remodeling of historic Reeves Hall, there\u2019s a whole lot of work going on around campus.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s an update on the projects.<\/p>\n

Reeves Hall<\/strong><\/p>\n

A $9 million remodeling includes seismic retrofit, improved ADA accessibility \u2013 including an internal elevator to all floors \u2013 new fire, life and safety systems, and a build-out of interior offices and classrooms for the College of Educational Studies. Built in 1913, Reeves Hall is one of the original buildings of the former Orange Union High School that make up Chapman\u2019s historic core. The modernization will not affect the historic integrity of the building, which is listed in the National Registry for Historical Buildings. <\/em><\/p>\n

Center for Science and Technology<\/strong><\/p>\n

Among the summer construction milestones on the project is what builders call \u201cdry-in,\u201d the phase when exterior walls, roofs, windows and doors are in place and the interior is no longer open to the elements. Dry-in allows for connection of permanent power.<\/p>\n

Erin J. Lastinger Tennis Center<\/strong><\/p>\n

When they return this fall, University athletes will enjoy a state-of-the-art tennis center equipped with six NCAA-rated courts for tournament play, plus one practice court. Located at the corner of West Palm Avenue and North Cypress Street, the facility\u2019s east and south facades are the original brick that once fronted industrial buildings in the historic area.<\/p>\n

Lindquist Arts Esplanade<\/strong><\/p>\n

Construction in this area near the Waltmar Theatre is part of the University\u2019s ongoing replacement of its underground water mains throughout campus. Walkways, paths and landscaping in the Lindquist Arts Esplanade will be restored before fall classes resume. A different section will be replaced each summer.<\/p>\n

Rinker Health Science Campus<\/strong><\/p>\n

A recently tenant-vacated section of the 9401 Jeronimo Road building that is part of the 25-acre campus is being remodeled to house additional classrooms and offices. Located in Irvine, the campus is home to the Chapman University School of Pharmacy and graduate programs in the Crean College of Health and Behavioral Sciences.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
