The third annual Cirque du Soleil Entertainment and Technology Symposium, directed by Professor Alicia Guy, Department of Dance and Professor Don Guy, Head of Entertainment Technology, will take place at Chapman University September 28-29, 2013. This year’s event will include performance and technical classes led by Cirque du Soleil and Disney, plus many of the leading entertainment industry manufacturers including Meyer Sound, Stage Technologies, Vari-Lite, Rosco Laboratories, Columbus McKinnon, to name just a few.  This first-of-its-kind symposium not only allows students to receive hands-on training with many of the entertainment industry’s leading artisans and manufactures, but is also unique in that it celebrates the collaboration between student performers and entertainment technology students. Class topics will include: audio, rigging, projections, automation, casting, dance, acting, health & safety, stage management, automated lighting, company management, arts management, resume writing, props, make-up, and costuming.

Cirque du Soleil prides itself on unifying creative minds, craftsmen, and performers in the creation of projects. This philosophy alongside our desire to promote interdisciplinarity was the catalyst for the creation of this symposium. Last year the symposium was attended by students and faculty from across the country. We look forward to another highly successful event that will serve to promote artistic creativity and collaboration within our community. For non-Chapman University attendees, the registration fee is $40 online and $50 for walk-ups on the day of the symposium. The registration fee includes entrance to all six class sessions and a special Saturday evening performance and reception.   Visit www.chapman.edu/cirque for more information.
