Music lecturer Michael Lee composes for centennial celebration
Announced on November 6, 2020
Chapman University music theory lecturer Michael Lee, an Eastman School of Music (University of Rochester, NY) alumnus, was invited along with other composers to write fanfares in celebration of the school’s Centennial Celebration this fall.
His fanfare, dedicated to Mark Scatterday and the Eastman School of Music, is titled Fanfare for the Unspoken Heroes of our Times for Brass Quintet. The title and musical ideas for his composition were influenced by the current events surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, “the heroes we don’t hear much through media, but are on the front line day after day fighting Covid-19,” and social issues. The piece was scheduled to premiere this fall during the university’s family/reunion/homecoming week but is postponed to 2021 due to the pandemic.
