{"id":1023,"date":"2014-04-16T08:00:28","date_gmt":"2014-04-16T15:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogschapman.wpenginepowered.com\/copa\/2014\/04\/16\/mozart-comic-opera-marriage-of-figaro\/"},"modified":"2014-04-16T08:00:28","modified_gmt":"2014-04-16T15:00:28","slug":"mozart-comic-opera-marriage-of-figaro","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/copa\/2014\/04\/16\/mozart-comic-opera-marriage-of-figaro\/","title":{"rendered":"Mozart&#039;s Delightful Comic Opera: Le Nozze di Figaro  (The Marriage of Figaro)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Opera Chapman and The Chapman Orchestra team up to present Mozart\u2019s comic masterpiece, <i>Le Nozze di Figaro<\/i> on April 25, 26 and 27, 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Widely considered Mozart&#8217;s best and funniest work,\u00a0<i>Le Nozze di Figaro (The Marriage of Figaro)<\/i>\u00a0is a grand comic opera full of mistaken identities and surprises. \u00a0In the aftermath of his marriage to Rosina, the count&#8217;s palace becomes a tangled web of love affairs &#8212; the pageboy Cherubino courts the countess while the count pursues the maidservant Susanna, who is betrothed to the wily Figaro. As the count conspires to steal Susanna, Figaro, his fianc\u00e9e and the countess maneuver to embarrass and expose the scheming count.<\/p>\n<p>These characters have delighted opera lovers the world over for more than 200 years.\u00a0 But there\u2019s one character that is often overlooked, one that contributes to the dramatic momentum of the story from the first note of the bustling overture to the final chords of the opera: <b>the orchestra<\/b>.\u00a0 Every player in the pit adds to the development of the story, helping to delineate and transform the characters on the stage. \u00a0The collaboration between the singers and the orchestra is a fantastic opportunity for all our students.\u00a0 For many of the singers this is the first time they\u2019re performing with an orchestra much less a complete role in Italian.\u00a0 The same is true for the orchestra musicians.\u00a0 They may have played the famous overture but to perform the entire opera is an amazing experience.\u00a0 That\u2019s the fun of it, doing something together that they can\u2019t do alone. \u00a0The collaboration is wonderful! \u00a0Forty musicians in the orchestra, thirty singers on stage, sets, costumes, lighting, wigs and make-up\u2026 what more can you ask for!\u00a0 All for less than the price of a movie ticket!<\/p>\n<p>Don\u2019t miss this opportunity to see the opera stars of tomorrow. \u00a0Performances are sung in Italian with dialogue in English with projected English supertitles.<\/p>\n<p><b><i>Le Nozze di Figaro<\/i><\/b> by W.A.
