\nOscar Wilde is famously known for saying:<\/p>\n

\u201cI regard the theater as the greatest of all art forms, the most immediate way in which a human being can share with another these sense of what it is to be a human being.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

There is something about the spirit of theater that continues to capture the attention of audiences to stories of hope, humor, anguish, mystery, tragedy and love. The New York City Theater Travel Course scheduled for Interterm 2015, and spearheaded by Assistant Professor Tamiko Washington of the College of Performing Arts, is an exploration of contemporary American theatrical productions, their history, and how local and global influences have contributed to the interculturalism of the New York Theater community.<\/p>\n

While in the heart of New York, Chapman students will be viewing ten Broadway and Off Broadway Theater productions, analyzing stage acting, design, and discussing the actor-audience relationship. Students will also have the unique opportunity to talk one\u2010on\u2010one with two Broadway professionals about their journey to Broadway, hear backstage stories, ask questions about professional opportunities, and learn some of the tricks of the trade. They will also be given a walking tour of Lower Manhattan which will include a round-trip on Staten Island Ferry, a tour through Wall Street, the magnificent Lincoln Center, Battery Park, and the 9\/11 Memorial. Some of the cultural excursions include visits to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim, two internationally-renowned art museums, with collections of classical and contemporary masterpieces.<\/p>\n

The travel course TH 352: New York Theater is set to depart this coming winter on January 5, 2015 and return January 20, 2015. This course has a total cost range of $4739.00 – $5213.00 and may incur expenses such as lodging, excursions, etc. not to exceed $5213.00. This program includes round-trip airfare to New York, lodging, theater performances and some meals are included in the price of the Travel Course. Please note: the cost of the travel course does NOT include any tuition costs.<\/p>\n
