{"id":1258,"date":"2014-09-25T08:53:20","date_gmt":"2014-09-25T15:53:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogschapman.wpenginepowered.com\/copa\/2014\/09\/25\/chapman-students-and-faculty-guests-at-the-long-road-todayel-largo-camino-de-hoy\/"},"modified":"2026-07-17T23:14:21","modified_gmt":"2026-07-17T23:14:21","slug":"chapman-students-and-faculty-guests-at-the-long-road-todayel-largo-camino-de-hoy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/copa\/2014\/09\/25\/chapman-students-and-faculty-guests-at-the-long-road-todayel-largo-camino-de-hoy\/","title":{"rendered":"Chapman Students and Faculty Guests at &quot;The Long Road Today\/El Largo Camino de Hoy&quot;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During the 2014 spring term, award-winning playwright Jos\u00e9 Cruz Gonz\u00e1lez and South Coast Repertory\u2019s Project Engagement Director Sara Guerrero visited Dr. Theresa Dudeck\u2019s Theatre for Social Change class to talk with students and invited faculty about their ambitious <em>Dialogue\/Di\u00e1logos<\/em> project underway with the Santa Ana Community.<\/p>\n<p>This community-based, two-year theatre project gathered the stories and skills of more than 1,000 Santa Ana residents initially by hosting a series of theatre-making workshops and story circles in the community. Gonz\u00e1lez then transformed those stories into a moving and powerful new play about community, tragedy, hope, and healing titled <em>The Long Road Today\/El Largo Camino de Hoy<\/em>. Finally, a cast and crew of nearly 100 residents under the direction of Armando Molina brought <em>The Long Road Today\/El Largo Camino de Hoy<\/em> to life as a site-specific performance utilizing multiple outdoor locations at Santa Ana\u2019s Civic Center Plaza to stage the action.<\/p>\n<p>Performed in Santa Ana&#8217;s Civic Center Plaza, the\u00a0Saturday, September 20 production of <em>The Long Road Today\/El Largo Camino de Hoy<\/em>\u00a0was attended by 40 members of the Chapman community (both faculty and students). Dr. Dudeck reported, &#8220;We were taken on an exciting journey that combined Gonz\u00e1lez\u2019s multilingual text with wonderful acting, live music, singing, dancing, and puppetry.\u00a0 It was a magical night for everyone!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We would like to sincerely thank Gonz\u00e1lez, Guerrero, and Laura Bustamante\u2014SCR\u2019s Marketing Coordinator\u2014for inviting Chapman to attend opening weekend as special guests and the Santa Ana community for making us feel so welcome,&#8221; Dudeck said.<\/p>\n<p>Performances of this family-friendly production continue September
