Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. will present <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kennedy-center.org\/calendar\/event\/TPTSH\">two performances of <em>If All the Sky Were Paper,<\/em><\/a> a compelling drama written by Chapman University Chancellor Fellow <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/andrew-carroll\">Andrew Carroll<\/a> and directed by theatre professor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/john-benitz\">Jon Benitz<\/a>. The play is based on Carroll\u2019s best-selling books <em>War Letters<\/em> and <em>Behind the Lines. <\/em>It centers around actual correspondence between U.S. military members and their loved ones.<\/p>\n<p>Produced by Lexikat Artists in association with Chapman University\u2019s Center for American War Letters, the performances will take place on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kennedy-center.org\/calendar\/event\/TPTSH\">Thursday, May 21 and Friday, May 22<\/a> at the Kennedy Center\u2019s Terrace Theater. The play will feature <strong>Mamie Gummer<\/strong> (<em>Emily Owens, M.D., The Good Wife<\/em>), <strong>Gary Cole <\/strong>(<em>VEEP, Pineapple Express, Office Space<\/em>), <strong>Jason Hall<\/strong> (Academy Award\u2013nominated writer of <em>American Sniper<\/em>), <strong>Michael Conner Humphreys<\/strong> and others to be announced. All proceeds will benefit the Kennedy Center Education Fund. Since then, the play has been awarded grants from The National Endowment for the Arts and Cal Humanities to help reach audiences around the country through a series of readings and performances. Previous performances in New York, Los Angeles and Seattle have met with acclaim from audiences and critics alike.<\/p>\n<h3>The Center for American War Letters<\/h3>\n<p>The Center for American War Letters (CAWL) is a unique and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/research-and-institutions\/cawl\/about-letters\/index.aspx\">extensive manuscript collection of previously unpublished war letters<\/a> from every American conflict, beginning with handwritten missives composed during the Revolutionary War and continuing up to emails sent from Iraq and Afghanistan.
