{"id":27,"date":"2011-10-05T20:43:16","date_gmt":"2011-10-05T20:43:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogschapman.wpenginepowered.com\/copa\/2011\/10\/05\/college-of-performing-arts-alumni-news\/"},"modified":"2011-10-05T20:43:16","modified_gmt":"2011-10-05T20:43:16","slug":"college-of-performing-arts-alumni-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/copa\/2011\/10\/05\/college-of-performing-arts-alumni-news\/","title":{"rendered":"College of Performing Arts Alumni News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>DEPARTMENT OF DANCE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Janelle Barry (&#8217;10) attended the Mark Morris Dance Group Summer Intensive in Brooklyn, and is currently rehearsing with choreographer Gina Graham for an upcoming show at the Judson Church Theatre in New York in late November.\u00a0 She also assisted David Leventhal (former MMDG member) in Dance for Parkinson&#8217;s Disease classes in September.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Giulia Carotenuto (&#8217;08) was accepted to be one of the company dancers for the Bessie Schonberg Choregrapher&#8217;s residency at the Yard in Martha&#8217;s Vineyard and has also been dancing for many smaller companies such as Katherine Helen Fisher Dance and Yara Travieso, with whom she premiered a work at the new Frank Gehry Concert Hall at the New World Symphony in Miami, and Palissimo, an up and coming dance theatre company directed by Pavel Zustiak.\u00a0 She is currently working on the third part of a work he began last year, called <em>The Painted Bird<\/em>, based on Kosinksi&#8217;s novel, which will premiere in May 2012. She will also be touring throughout the year with Monica Bill Barnes and Company.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DEPARTMENT OF THEATRE:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Cindy Derby (&#8217;08) presented <em>Edward\u2019s House of String<\/em> as part of REDCAT\u2019s 8<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0Annual New Original Works Festival held from September 8-24.\u00a0 The performance was featured in the <em>Los Angeles Times<\/em>:\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lastagetimes.com\/2011\/08\/redcat-now-festival-edwards-house-of-string\">http:\/\/www.lastagetimes.com\/2011\/08\/redcat-now-festival-edwards-house-of-string<\/a>\/.<\/p>\n<p>Elizabeth Nolan (&#8217;07) performed in South Coast Repertory&#8217;s production of <em>Pride and Prejudice <\/em>in the role of Catherine Bennett.\u00a0 She is a graduate of SCR\u2019s Professional Actor Training Program and has appeared in several productions in Los Angeles, including <em>Bash <\/em>and <em>String of Pearls<\/em> (Small Space Theater), <em>Black Hole<\/em> (Santa Monica Playhouse) and <em>Lysistrata<\/em> (The Antaeus Company).<\/p>\n<p><strong>CONSERVATORY OF MUSIC:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Daniel Curran (&#8217;08) sang the role of Almaviva in <em>Barber of Seville<\/em> with the Merola Program of the San Francisco Opera this summer.\u00a0 He has a contract with the Arizona Opera Young Artist Program for the 2011-2012 season.<\/p>\n<p>Evan Brummel was an apprentice artist with the Santa Fe Opera this summer. This fall he is contracted as the Resident Baritone with the San Jose Opera. He will sing the roles Tonio in <em>Pagliacci<\/em>, Valentin in <em>Faust<\/em>, and Germont in <em>La Traviata<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/copa\/2011\/11\/11\/conservatory-of-music-graduates-placed-in-top-five-of-metropolitan-opera-competition\/\">Ben Bliss<\/a> (&#8217;09) began a contract with the Los Angeles Opera in August in the Domingo-Thornton Young Artist Program. He will sing Parpignol in <em>La Boheme<\/em>, Benvolio in <em>Romeo and Juliette<\/em>, and cover the roles of Ferando in <em>Cosi Fan Tutte<\/em> and Albert in <em>Albert Herring<\/em>. In addition he will receive considerable training in stage movement, dance, acting and voice lessons with many important
