Azuki Umeda<\/a> (BFA Dance Performance, BA Integrated Educational Studies ’20) shares highlights of her time at Chapman, as well as some advice for dance students:<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

\u201cI was able to showcase my [choreography] pieces to several festivals this year. I was extremely honored to show my pieces at Capezio ACE Awards<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0McCallum Choreography Festival<\/a>, two festivals [where] I dreamed of showcasing my choreography when I was back in high school. It still feels like a dream to me to be able to be a part of other talented finalists. I was able to showcase two pieces that I premiered at Chapman last year, GENIUS…<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0GEN Z<\/a>. These two pieces were some of the first pieces that I have choreographed throughout my Chapman career and I cannot believe it has progressed throughout this year. I also had the opportunity to work with the artist who created the music for GEN Z. We were able to create a concept video for one of her songs, and I am thankful that I was able to do so. I am thankful for\u00a0Jennifer Backhaus<\/a>,\u00a0Liz Curtis<\/a>, and\u00a0Liz Maxwell<\/a> for teaching me choreography in my classes. I also am thankful for Chapman Dance Alliance<\/a>\u00a0for letting me showcase my choreography at their annual showcase. These student choreography opportunities have led me to these events.\u00a0My advice to other CoPA students is to start creating. If you have the passion for what you love to do, it will show in your dancing.<\/strong>\u00a0This will help you figure out your own artistic voice once you start creating and performing.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n
