The College of Performing Arts is proud to celebrate the recent achievements of Music professor and Director of Percussion Studies <\/span>Dr. Nicholas Terry<\/span><\/a>, whose leadership in music continues to shine on local and national stages. <\/span>\"\"Brightwork Ensemble<\/span><\/a>, a musical project that Dr. Terry helped establish 12 years ago, is a regular performer at <\/span>Monk Space<\/span><\/a>, one of Los Angeles\u2019s most dynamic venues for contemporary music. This past June, Brightwork presented a show called <\/span>Pop Up<\/span><\/i> at Monk Space, earning multiple honors in the <\/span>San Francisco Classical Voice Audience Awards, Los Angeles<\/span><\/a>: <\/span>Favorite Vocal Recital<\/b> and <\/span>Favorite Small Venue<\/b>. Another award, <\/span>Favorite Opera Singer<\/b>, was awarded to <\/span>Stacey Fraser<\/span><\/a>, who performed that night alongside Dr. Terry. <\/span>Pop Up<\/span><\/i> also featured a collaboration with Chapman alum and trumpeter <\/span>Jeremy D\u00e1valos<\/span><\/a> and Grammy-nominated violinist <\/span>Shalini Vijayan<\/span><\/a>, a highly respected professional musician who frequently performs for \"\"Sony and FOX studios, the LA Chamber Orchestra, and the Hollywood string quartet, Lyris Quartet. The collaboration stands as a testament to the professional readiness fostered through Chapman\u2019s music program and the success of its graduates in working alongside top-tier industry musicians.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Recently, Brightwork won a grant from <\/span>New Music USA<\/span><\/a> and was selected into the Los Angeles cohort of <\/span>New Music Inc<\/span><\/a>, an incubator program supporting small, artist-led music ensembles.<\/span><\/p>\n

In addition to live performances, Brightwork recently launched its own streaming record label imprint, <\/span>Brightwork Digital<\/span><\/a>. One of the label\u2019s first releases, <\/span>Isla<\/span><\/i>\u2014a piece for vibraphone, flute, and electronics\u2014was filmed on Chapman\u2019s very own campus and features Dr. Terry performing.<\/span><\/p>\n
