\"SCAR<\/p>\n

Students and faculty gathered to enjoy complimentary pizza and beverages while learning about potential career paths and opportunities from local experts and recruiters in their field.\u00a0The Health Science Majors meeting was held on April 16, 2015 in Crean Hall.
\nDr. Kenneth Sumida<\/a>
\ncreated the event as a way to involve students in career and internship possibilities while also providing details for further education options. Health Science and Kinesiology faculty attended and chatted with students, including Dr. Marcia Abbott, Dr. Frank Frisch, and Dr. Eric Sternlicht.<\/p>\n

\"SCAR<\/p>\n

One of the three presenters was Jim Herkimer, a
\nChapman University Physical Therapy<\/a>
\nAlumni and part time faculty member. A lifelong Orange resident, Mr. Herkimer opened his own clinic,
\nSports Conditioning and Rehabilitation<\/a>
\n(SCAR). He provided valuable information to the students regarding the new health care model of keeping the population healthy rather than constantly treating disease. Mr. Herkimer discussed the career options available to students if they should chose to pursue an advanced degree in Physical Therapy including working at a pediatric or nursing facility, hospital, home health programs, or owning a private business. The SCAR clinic opened in Orange in 1973 and has developed into a very successful business over the years. Mr. Herkimer discussed the importance of networking, especially as a business owner, and encouraged students to start this process now.<\/p>\n

Additional presenters included, Jared Mcllvene, Director of Projects in the Clinical Care Extender Program, COPE Health Solutions at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian.
