This event brings together scientists and clinicians from both institutions for an evening of research discovery. Doctors, staff scientists, and other members of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.choc.org\/\">CHOC community<\/a> were invited to view and discuss research posters presented by Chapman faculty from Crean, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/pharmacy\/index.aspx\">School of Pharmacy<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/scst\/index.aspx\">Schmid College of Science and Tech<\/a>, and the new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/engineering\/index.aspx\">Fowler School of Engineering<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The evening began with welcoming remarks from Crean College Dean <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/janeen-hill\">Janeen Hill, Ph.D.<\/a> and CHOC Chief Executive Officer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.choc.org\/providers\/administration\/maria-minon-md\/\">Maria Minon, M.D.<\/a> Both women encouraged attendees to network, share their scientific interests, and discuss potential collaborations. At last year&#8217;s event, many attendees made connections that eventually lead to joint projects. Assistant Professor of Psychology, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/crean\/2018\/07\/20\/new-study-into-child-opioid-use-in-hospitals\/\">Brooke Jenkins<\/a> Ph.D. is a faculty member who has worked closely with CHOC on a number of studies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/crean\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2019\/11\/IMG_0835.jpg\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-2849\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-2849 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/crean\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2019\/11\/IMG_0835.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"246\" height=\"392\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/crean\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2019\/11\/IMG_0835.jpg 402w, https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/crean\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/75\/2019\/11\/IMG_0835-188x300.jpg 188w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 246px) 100vw, 246px\" \/><\/a>One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of &#8220;Pepper&#8221; the pediatric care robot. Created by Associate Professor of Communication Studies and Engineering, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/austin-lee\">Autin Lee, Ph.D<\/a>. and Assistant Professor of Pharmacy, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chapman.edu\/our-faculty\/sun-yang\">Coco Yang, Ph.D.<\/a>, Pepper is designed to be a comforting companion to children who may be stuck in hospital waiting rooms or confined to beds. The fun and entertainment the robot provides keep children occupied and happy while reducing stress for parents, doctors, and hospital staff.<\/p>\n<p>Approximately twenty other faculty members presented posters covering a wide range of health-related research interests. CHOC attendees were given Chapman swag bags and expo booklets containing contact info for all presenters. Many expressed surprise and excitement as they perused the posters and talked with faculty.
