About a month ago, when the university moved all of its courses to remote learning, Professor Bret Marcus decided that he wanted to continue some form of a weekly newscast as part of the senior capstone class, “Producing the Newscast” (BRJL 432). So, in collaboration with his students, Professor Marcus turned Chapman News the TV show into Chapman News: The Podcast.

“We just did our third podcast [last Friday], running 40 minutes.” Professor Marcus explains. “Each student has a ‘news beat’ and 15 of the 18 students filed audio reports. They were in seven different states, and one of our producers is in New Delhi.”

Last Friday’s podcast included a medical beat, “Ask the Expert” with Dr. Jerika Lam (from Chapman’s School of Pharmacy), politics, California, Washington D.C., the nation and the world. They also have a feature called “Making a Difference” which is their version of the hero of the week. “I’m very proud of the students; they’ve really embraced it,” Professor Marcus emphasizes.
