New technologies such as Virtual Reality have created exciting new ways for broadcast journalists and documentary filmmakers to tell nonfiction narratives in an immersive format, effectively placing the viewer “in the story.” In this course, Nonny de la Pena, PhD — known as the Godmother of Virtual Reality, and widely credited with helping to create the new genre of immersive journalism — will explore the ways journalists and documentarians have adapted virtual reality in their work, and will introduce students to the techniques of producing immersive narratives. Students will work in teams to conceptualize and create a final immersive narrative project.Limited to 12 students.
