COMMUNITY VOICES: AMERICA\u2019S STORIES Documentary Screening\u2014May, 2, 2019, 7 p.m., Folino Theater<\/strong><\/p>\n

COMMUNITY VOICES: AMERICA\u2019S STORIES is a social issue documentary film program at Chapman University. Each year, groups of students spend two semesters creating a short documentary about today\u2019s most relevant, national social issues. This year, the theme was AMERICAN IDENTITY. We are thrilled to unveil this year\u2019s films at our premiere screening, which will be followed by a panel with the filmmakers and a reception featuring delicious, FREE food. This event is open to the public. No RSVP necessary.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s screening features the following films:<\/p>\n

AMERICAN MADE<\/u><\/strong> by Spencer Santini, Jordan Prieto-Vald\u00e9s, Dany Zavala, Jacinta Filaci, Peng Wang
\n<\/strong>A powerful and triumphant look at the labor union movement in New York City.<\/span><\/p>\n

LADYLIKE<\/u><\/strong> by Lidieth Arevalo Hernandez, Rachel Bickert, Emma Wang, Emily Tapanes
\n<\/strong>A young queer woman in the American south comes to terms with her sexuality, shattering her deep-rooted religious beliefs and cultural stereotypes within her conservative community, family and self.<\/p>\n

THAT WAS RAY<\/u>\u00a0<\/strong>by Kaustubh Singh, Derek Wan, Brenten Brandenburg, Jordan Gorman
\n<\/strong>A historical documentary featuring the life of Ray Broshears, creator of the Lavender Panthers, a militant, gay activist group in the 1970\u2019s Bay Area.<\/p>\n

AMERICAN NATION<\/u> <\/strong>by Jack Belisle, Gabe Knoos-Newton, Sea Liu, Ragini Bhasin
\n<\/strong>A short film featuring the challenges faced by American Samoans in Salt Lake City as they strive to become U.S. citizens in this controversial time in our nation\u2019s immigration history.<\/p>\n

DIVIDED<\/u><\/strong> by Ben Allen, Brynne McKee, Jack Mullinkosson, Jackie Palacios
\n<\/strong>An examination of the national divide between blue and red, as experienced by two queer women in different parts of the country.<\/p>\n

SLAB CITY<\/u><\/strong> by Prateek Damodaren, Danylo Hauk
\n<\/strong>This experiential reflexive documentary delves into the heart of Slab City, an off-grid commune south of Los Angeles, labeled the \u201clast free place in America\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Location<\/strong>
\nThe screening is located in the Folino Theater, in Marion Knott Studios,\u00a0 283 North Cypress Street, Orange, CA 92866.<\/p>\n

Parking<\/strong>
\nFree parking is available on the streets surrounding the building or in the lot, with a purchase of a parking pass from the meter located in the back of the building.<\/p>\n
