{"id":14443,"date":"2019-08-08T09:42:01","date_gmt":"2019-08-08T16:42:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogschapman.wpenginepowered.com\/dodge\/2019\/08\/08\/semi-finalists-2019-saa\/"},"modified":"2019-08-08T09:42:01","modified_gmt":"2019-08-08T16:42:01","slug":"semi-finalists-2019-saa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/dodge\/2019\/08\/08\/semi-finalists-2019-saa\/","title":{"rendered":"Four Dodge Films Named Semi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Student Academy Awards have announced their semi-finalists, which include four films produced by Dodge students.<\/p>\n<p>In 1972 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oscars.org\/\">The Academy<\/a> established the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oscars.org\/saa\">Student Academy Awards<\/a> \u201cto support and encourage excellence in filmmaking at the collegiate level.\u201d Past Student Academy Award winners have gone on to receive 62 Oscar nominations and have won or shared 11 awards. Past winners include Pete Docter, Robert Zemeckis, Patricia Riggen, Cary Fukunaga, Patricia Cardoso and Spike Lee. In total, four student films from Dodge College have won a Student Academy Award.<\/p>\n<p>This year 1,615 films were submitted for consideration, but only 81 were named semi-finalists, placing these films in the top five percent of submissions.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The following films have made it to the semi-final stage:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.twopapernightingales.com\/\"><strong>Two Paper Nightingales<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d a senior thesis film by<strong><strong> Kaylin George (BFA\/FP \u201919)<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: left\">\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt10261686\/\"><strong>That Was Ray<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d a <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/dodge\/2019\/04\/05\/community-voices-2019\/\">Community Voices<\/a> project by <strong>Brenten Brandenburg (BFA\/FP \u201919)<\/strong>, <strong>Jordan Gorman (BFA\/FP \u201919),<\/strong><strong><strong> Kaustubh Singh (BFA\/NWD \u201919) and To &#8220;Derek&#8221; Wan (MFA\/DOC \u201919)<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/shelbythompp.myportfolio.com\/relentless\"><strong>Relentless<\/strong><\/a>,\u201d a senior documentary thesis film by <strong><strong>Shelby Thompson (BFA\/NWD \u201919)<\/strong><\/strong><\/li>\n<li>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt10303956\/?ref_=nm_knf_t1\"><strong>Xinyan: One Child Left Behind<\/strong><\/a>\u201d a graduate documentary
