As Dodge College continues to expand and innovate in the digital space, we’ve recently decided to add an exciting new feature to our website: private, for-student, message boards!<\/p>\n

Yep, later this week, when the new student website goes live<\/a>, students will find a place to share with others, ask questions, look for last-minute crew members, post housing questions and classifieds, and more.\u00a0 Think of it as a giant, electronic bulletin board which allows you to sort and filter the messages you want, rather than getting buried behind posters, ripped phone numbers, and aggressive actors!<\/p>\n

However, given the popularity of our Facebook page<\/a>, other social<\/a> media<\/a> profiles<\/a>, and public blogs<\/a>, the time has come for us to produce some concreete guidelines, behaviors, and rules we ask students (and those not affiliated with the school) to follow in order to maintain a civil, respectful place for open communication.<\/p>\n

Without further ado, here is the Dodge College Social Media Policy:<\/strong>
\nThe blogs, social media profiles, and student forums maintained and operated by Dodge College of Film and Media Arts are governed by the general rules of common sense and respectful, civil discourse. You are fully responsible for everything that you post, whether the material originates with you or from a quotation. The content of all comments is released into the public domain unless clearly stated otherwise. We do not control the content posted; nevertheless, we may monitor any user-generated content and reserve the right to remove content for any reason whatever, without consent. Gratuitous links to sites are viewed as spam and may result in removed comments. We reserve the right, to remove a user\u2019s privilege to post content on either the public blogs, social media profiles, or private forums.<\/p>\n

General guidelines:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Be nice! Follow the “golden rule” and treat others with the respect you hope to receive.<\/li>\n
  2. Please refrain from profanity.<\/li>\n
  3. Comments containing language or concepts that could be deemed offensive are not allowed.<\/li>\n
  4. Comments that attack a person individually, a culture or belief generally, or are otherwise in conflict with the University\u2019s policies for interpersonal communication, are not allowed.<\/li>\n
  5. Avoid posting defamatory and potentially defamatory comments.<\/li>\n
  6. Only original comments are allowed; do not post private emails, other people’s work, as your own.<\/li>\n
  7. Ensure that your comments are relevant to the topic being discussed.<\/li>\n
  8. Write in English. Comments linking to non-English language sites may be removed in their entirety.<\/li>\n
  9. You must not pretend to be another Dodge College user.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Infractions will generally receive the following attention:<\/p>\n

      \n
    • Messages deemed as spam, off-topic, or duplicates by the staff will be removed immediately, without notice.<\/li>\n
    • Personal infractions of a minor nature will result in moderation of the offending post, and a private message to the offender.<\/li>\n
    • Personal infractions of a serious nature, especially inflammatory or offensive comments, will likely result in a temporary suspension of the user\u2019s posting privileges, with permanent suspension for especially serious violations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      I want to report an abusive comment. What do I do?
      \nBelow each comment posted there is a link saying \u201cReport this comment\u201d. Alternately, you may email us with the offending post or comment URL. The comment will then be brought to the attention of our moderation team.<\/p>\n

      Not too bad, right?\u00a0 Basically, just be polite to each other (and us!) and try to operate with the same courtesy that you would when interacting face to face in the classroom.<\/p>\n
