\nCommunity Voices is a social issue documentary film program that links Chapman film students with Orange-County based organizations to make portrait films about social issues. Students embed themselves in the lives and communities of their subjects, creating short documentaries about the challenges, successes, and ultimately the
\nstories <\/em>
\nof these local organizations.  Check out the subjects:  (

\nThe screening will show each of this year’s five films in its entirety, giving the students a chance to honor their teams and subjects between each short, with an extended question and answer period which allows the audience to gain even deeper perspective on the filmmakers hard work.

\nAnd even better, a taco bar reception will follow the screenings, giving audience and students the chance to socialize one on one, in Marion Knott Studios lobby.   The screening is at Dodge College, 283 North Cypress Street, Orange, CA 92866. On street parking is available. No RSVP necessary. <\/p>\n

\nCharlie Alameda, a 6th grade student at Pyles Elementary School, struggles to pay attention in his classroom environment. As part of the curriculum, Charlie and his friends go on a week-long field trip to Inside the Outdoor’s, Outdoor Science School, in the San Bernardino mountains. While there, Charlie experiences science in a fun and interactive way while discovering his love for nature. Through the help of his teachers and cabin leader Roman, Charlie learns that there’s more to life than just the place he’s grown up.

\nSix-year-old Amelia Grace has spent her short life struggling against chronic illness and severe anxiety. To complicate matters, her father is on an extensive tour of duty as a soldier in Afghanistan. Luckily, Amelia Grace has found comfort through treatment at Bethany’s Gait, an equine-assisted psychotherapy center located in San Juan Capistrano. For the last ten years, Bethany’s Gait has paired troubled children and veterans with horses rescued from abuse and neglect. Through this non-profit, Amelia Grace has formed a special bond with Karisma, her equine therapy partner and new best friend.

\nThis documentary explores traditional Mexican folk dance through the founding family of Relampago del Cielo as they prepare to put on their largest performance of the year. Through the mounting stress of the upcoming show, the family looks back to the beginning of the organization and to its future.

\nSet deep within the life of a refugee family in Orange County, our film is an account of the small victories and challenges faced by good people in an alien place. The Khalfa family emigrated less than one year ago from Iraq.
