Sing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n\tBefore the Thanksgiving break, our Filmmaker-in-Residence, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0459170\/\">Randal Kleiser<\/a>, presented a very exciting screening of his classic &#039;50&#039;s musical, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0077631\/\"><em>Grease<\/em><\/a>, with a unique twist: active audience participation!<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAlready familiar with the event? <a href=\"\/dodge\/#Slideshow\">Jump straight to the slideshow.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\tHow does it work?&nbsp; As the characters begin to sing, the song lyrics appear in brightly colored words onscreen; rather than the classic bouncing ball, the words actually light up and grow larger as the song goes on, helping the audience stay in-time (if not necessarily in-tune).&nbsp; At certain points in the film, the audience is instructed to participate by mimicking the film&#039;s extras, for example by shaking their Pom-Poms during a football game onscreen, or performing the &quot;hand jive&quot; when the actors do.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n\tRandal introducing the film:<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/dodgecollege\/5218930603\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5163\/5218930603_dd0d32a915.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n\tAlumni David May (BFA &#039;05, MFA\/FS&#039;10), and Kevin Hansen (BFA\/BJ &#039;05), MC&#039;d the event, clad in the classic &quot;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.halloweencostumes4u.com\/Merchant2\/graphics\/00000003\/10068.jpg\">greaser<\/a>&quot; attire: rolled-up jeans, white shirts, and slicked-back hair.&nbsp; They introduced the audience to the various props used throughout the film&#039;s interactive participation, such as, Pom-Poms, combs, and whistles, each tied to a scene or recurring element.&nbsp; Think <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0073629\/\"><em>Rocky Horror<\/em>&#039;<\/a>s hotdogs, raincoats, and rice, if you&#039;re familiar with the 1970&#039;s classic which pioneered the live-action \/ audience participation musical genre.&nbsp; Luckily, <em>Grease<\/em> is a bit less bawdy, so we were able to bring this exciting event right here to Dodge&#039;s Folino theater.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/dodgecollege\/5219519940\/in\/photostream\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" height=\"500\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4125\/5219519940_0b80338119.jpg\" width=\"332\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n\tChapman University students, dolled up in poodle skirts and leather jackets, taught the audience how to perform some of the film&#039;s dance moves, including the &quot;Hand Jive,&quot; and bounded onstage whenever the film&#039;s characters spontaneously burst into dance.<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/dodgecollege\/5219519468\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm6.static.flickr.com\/5007\/5219519468_bb668118ae.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n\tFollowing the film, students were treated to a Q&amp;A with Randal Kleiser, lead by Conservatory Chair <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/name\/nm0741228\/\">Alex Rose<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/dodgecollege\/5218928695\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" src=\"http:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4107\/5218928695_1510f6677d.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\n\t&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\n\t<br \/>\n\t<a name=\"Slideshow\"><\/a>Thanks to everyone who came out to support the film, the Filmmaker-in-Residence, and fifties culture in general!&nbsp;
