{"id":505,"date":"2010-05-05T07:51:00","date_gmt":"2010-05-05T14:51:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogschapman.wpenginepowered.com\/dodge\/2010\/05\/05\/first-post\/"},"modified":"2010-05-05T07:51:00","modified_gmt":"2010-05-05T14:51:00","slug":"first-post","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.chapman.edu\/dodge\/2010\/05\/05\/first-post\/","title":{"rendered":"First Post!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"center\" class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;text-align: center\">\n\t<span><font size=\"3\"><font color=\"#000000\">TV IS GOOD 4 U<\/font><\/font><\/span><span><font color=\"#000000\" size=\"3\">\u00a0<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\" class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;text-align: center\">\n\t<span><font size=\"3\"><font color=\"#000000\">Comedies \u2013 Dramas \u2013 News &#8211; Documentaries<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\" class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt;text-align: center\">\n\t<span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n\t<span><font size=\"3\"><font color=\"#000000\"><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Welcome to TV IS GOOD 4 U, the blog about all things TV at Chapman University.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Just in the past few weeks here:<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n\t<span><font color=\"#000000\" size=\"3\">\u00a0<\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"margin-top: 0in\" type=\"disc\">\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\">\n\t\t<span><font size=\"3\"><font color=\"#000000\">Professor Pete Weitzner took students to a taping of <i>The Tonight Show with Jay Leno<\/i><\/font><\/font><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\">\n\t\t<span><font size=\"3\"><font color=\"#000000\">We screened <i>Rising Above<\/i>, this year\u2019s HBO-style one-hour drama pilot created, written, produced and directed entirely by our students.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>The screening was held in our 500-seat state-of-the art theater.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Last year\u2019s pilot, <i>Kate So Far<\/i>, received Outstanding Drama nominations at the New York Television Festival and the LA NexTV Festival.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>We expect <i>Rising Above<\/i> to be equally acclaimed.<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\">\n\t\t<span><font size=\"3\"><font color=\"#000000\">Screened the amazing documentaries <i>Crude<\/i> (about an oil spill, how timely is <i>that<\/i>?) and <i>Food, Inc<\/i>.<\/font><\/font><\/span><span><font color=\"#000000\" size=\"3\">\u00a0<\/font><\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\">\n\t\t<font size=\"3\"><font color=\"#000000\"><i><span>CSI: Miami<\/span><\/i><span> producer\/director Marco Black spoke to the Prime Time TV Club <\/span><\/font><\/font><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n\t<span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n\t<span><font size=\"3\"><font color=\"#000000\"><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>The Television and Broadcast Journalism major at Chapman covers the full spectrum of television opportunities \u2013 documentaries, prime-time comedies and dramas, and broadcast journalism.<span>\u00a0 <\/span>We\u2019re even into Internet TV: go to You Tube or Funnyordie and check out episodes of our student created and produced web series <i>Red White &amp; Blue<\/i>, <i>Model Family<\/i>, and <i>Super Zeroes<\/i>.<\/font><\/font><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n\t<span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin: 0in 0in 0pt\">\n\t<span><font size=\"3\"><font color=\"#000000\"><span>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>Why is TV Good 4 U?<span>\u00a0 <\/span>Check out this quote from LA Times entertainment writer Patrick Goldstein:<span>\u00a0 <\/span><\/font><\/font><\/span><font color=\"#000000\"><i><span lang=\"EN\" style=\"font-size: 12.5pt\">If you want to see\u00a0sparkling comedy and compelling drama, you&#8217;d\u00a0have much better luck staying home, curled up in front of your TV set instead of\u00a0hiring a baby-sitter and\u00a0fighting traffic getting to the multiplex\u2026 in TV, writer-producers have\u00a0far more creative clout than they can ever possess in movies.\u00a0David Simon (&#8220;The Wire&#8221; and &#8220;Treme&#8221;), David Chase (&#8220;The Sopranos&#8221;), Aaron Sorkin (&#8220;The West Wing&#8221;), Vince Gilligan (&#8220;Breaking Bad&#8221;), Matthew Weiner (&#8220;Mad Men&#8221;), Jenji Kohan (&#8220;Weeds&#8221;) and Greg Daniels (&#8220;The Office&#8221;) aren&#8217;t running networks.
