Please join us on Thursday, December 11 at 7PM in the Folino Theater for Project W. We will be screening a few social issue documentaries profiling inspiring women leaders across the country. These women are creating change through stories of courage in the face of adversity.<\/p>\n

We will be screening the following films:<\/p>\n

UNFINISHED BUSINESS<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Emmy Gyori, Lauren Huff, Julia White<\/strong><\/p>\n

Unfinished Business<\/em> tells the story of three childhood friends – Sita, Fiona, and Layla – who have made a name for themselves in the Toronto punk rock scene. Now in high school, the girls have been playing music together and performing since they were ten. They’ve grown up together and now face the challenges of young adulthood, and figuring out who they really are.<\/p>\n

DRIVEN<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Mackie Davisson, Siede Kohl, Brenna Malloy<\/strong><\/p>\n

Hannah Newhouse chases her dreams at over 150 miles per hour. Driven<\/em> is the story of a 17-year-old race car driver who simply won’t slow down. A personal life, free time and everything else take a back seat on Hannah’s journey to the podium.<\/p>\n

BLING, BEATS AND BIAS<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Sydney Guthrie, Natalie Haber, Ariane Jong, Tara Steward<\/strong><\/p>\n

Through the eyes of local Bay Area hip hop artists, Bling, Beats and Bias<\/em> dissects the increasing misogyny and homogenization of the hip hop music world. The film questions the representation of women as a whole in mainstream hip hop and rap, and highlights talents that have yet to gain widespread recognition.<\/p>\n

GIRLS IN THE MACHINE<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Tadeu Bijos, K.B. Jenny Kim, Amy Vanderlip, Jackie Zhou<\/strong><\/p>\n

Deanna Rice, team captain of the all-girls La Reina High School competitive VEX robotics team, is the driving force leading her team through a competitive tournament schedule. The world of high school robotics competitors, seen through the eyes of a driven and laser-focused young girl.<\/p>\n

STRENGTH WITHIN<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Mor Albalak, Jenna Kirshon, Karen Liu, Leon Lukic<\/strong><\/p>\n

Strength Within<\/em> follows Emily Peterson, a facilitator for yogaHOPE, a program that helps empower women by using mindfulness and the practice of yoga to help overcome mental and physical trauma.<\/p>\n

PHYLLIS<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Ceylan Carhoglu, Alex Ivany, Krysta Mortland, Kayla Velloso<\/strong><\/p>\n

Phyllis Sues is an age-defying wonder of a woman who loves to sing, dance tango, jump rope, practice yoga and skydive – all at the age of 91. Though she faces many physical obstacles daily, she doesn’t let them slow down her drive to mentally overcome anything in her way. On the go all the time, Phyllis Sues continues to re-invent herself in her 10th decade of life.<\/p>\n
