Orange, CA (November 30, 2015) <\/strong>\u2013 Academy Award\u00ae nominated producer Don Hahn (\u201cThe Lion King,\u201d \u201cBeauty and the Beast,\u201d \u201cHigh Ground\u201d) has been named spring 2016 Pankey Chair at Chapman University\u2019s Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, recognized as one of the premier film schools in the United States. The announcement was made today by Dodge College Dean Bob Bassett.<\/p>\n

Through its popular Pankey Chair program, Dodge College hosts an expert filmmaker for a semester to meet with and counsel 10 selected scholars.The program includes regular, bi-weekly meetings with the filmmaker in a one-on-one setting where the student and mentor have the opportunity to creatively develop a specific project throughout the semester. In addition, the filmmaker interacts with the larger Dodge College community at weekly dinners with the filmmaker open to students and screenings of the filmmaker\u2019s films followed by an in-class Q & A. The program is funded by an endowment gift established by trustee emeritus Edgar Pankey and his wife Elizabeth Pankey, who continues to support the program in his honor.<\/p>\n

\u201cDon\u2019s breadth of experience across all film mediums, from animation to documentary, will enhance the collaborative environment at Dodge College,\u201d says Dean Bassett.<\/p>\n

Hahn\u2019s eclectic resume highlights his interest in multiple genres including animation (\u201cThe Lion King,\u201d \u201cBeauty and The Beast\u201d), stop motion (\u201cThe Nightmare Before Christmas\u201d), live action\/visual effects (\u201cHaunted Mansion,\u201d \u201cMaleficent\u201d) and documentaries (\u201cWaking Sleeping Beauty,\u201d \u201cOceans,\u201d \u201cHigh Ground\u201d).<\/p>\n

Hahn began his career in film as assistant director to legendary producer\/director Wolfgang Reitherman (\u201cJungle Book\u201d).\u00a0\u00a0 He was associate producer for the landmark hit \u201cWho Framed Roger Rabbit.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 His other credits include \u201cHunchback of Notre Dame,\u201d \u201cAtlantis,\u201d \u201cFantasia 2000\u201d and \u201cEmperor\u2019s New Groove.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hahn\u2019s love of documentary filmmaking led him to direct \u201cWaking Sleeping Beauty,\u201d and produce acclaimed films such as \u201cHigh Ground\u201d about soldiers returning from war in Afghanistan, and this year\u2019s Telluride Film Festival selection \u201cTyrus\u201d about the 105-year-old Chinese American artist Tyrus Wong. He was a founder and executive producer of the acclaimed Disneynature Films (\u201cEarth,\u201d \u201cOceans,\u201d \u201cAfrican Cats\u201d and \u201cChimpanzee\u201d).<\/p>\n

As an author, Hahn\u2019s books on animation, art and creativity include the bestseller \u201cBrain Storm,\u201d the acclaimed educational series \u201cDrawn To Life\u201d and \u201cBefore Ever After: The Lost Lectures of Disney\u2019s Animation Studio.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0 Hahn also serves on the Advisory Board for the Walt Disney Family Museum, and is on the Board of Directors of PBS SoCal.<\/p>\n
