The 22nd<\/sup> Annual ChildrensBook Illustrators’ Show and Signing<\/a>
\n at
\nChemers Gallery<\/a>
\n in Tustin went off without a hitch on Saturday, December 12th.  As the store opened at 1:00 p.m., there were customers lined up to buy books and have illustrators sign them.  The vibe was cheery and warm, even as the temperatures dipped outside and the rain fell.  Guests just kept piling in, greeted warmly by the 
\nCollege of Educational Studies <\/a>
\nfamily.  The CES Staff were incredible in serving everyone, including Breann Parker, Anna Lane,  James Taylor, Maria Lynch, Hilary Leath, Jennifer Bennett, Carol Roughton, Kathy Arballo, and Master of Arts in Leadership Development student, Vanessa Rosella.

Dr. Penny Bryan <\/a>
\nserved as the mistress of ceremonies for the illustrator presentations throughout the day and also made a presentation on the impact of visual illustration on narrative.

\nThe original art is incredible, colorful and many are framed whimsically and coordinated just right to match the art.  
\nDr. Ky Kugler<\/a>
\n, Senior Associate Dean, counted at least 7 original art pieces sold as of Saturday afternoon. The donation received from this event will support literacy programs in the College of Educational Studies.    All this and guess what?  There are still books and art available for purchase at
\nChemers<\/a>
\n!*

\nThe evening culminated in a dinner at Zito’s in the Enderle Center for the guest illustrator’s, the staff and friends of Chemers and CES representatives.  The College of Educational Studies literacy video was shown, and Dr. Ky Kugler welcomed the group, noted that Chemers had been awarded the Small Business Winner for
\nNational Philanthropy Day<\/a>
\n a few weeks back and gave our thanks for being chosen as the gallery’s charity to receive a donation from the sales of books and art from the Children’s Book Illustration Show this year.  Dr. Kugler introduced Karen Raab, owner of the gallery. Karen thanked the illustrators and the incredible group of volunteers from Chapman University, stating that it was an honor to work with the CES at this event and give to our programs.

\nCollege of Educational Studies (CES) Literacy Programs<\/a>
\n.   The CES Literacy Program teaches reading and writing to approximately 100 culturally and linguistically diverse elementary students each year. This tutoring program also educates undergraduate and graduate student teachers to be effective literacy educators in our public schools. The program also offers a Home Library Program where young readers are given books in their current and next reading levels for their homes.
